1981 Chevrolet Camaro Hardtop
For consignment, a 1981 Chevrolet Camaro hardtop. This is a completely built race car with aluminum heads, nitrous, a fire suppression system and much, much more. We'll save you a few phone calls by listing much of the build here, but if you're looking to get into the racing scene, or to increase your stable, take a good look at this drag racing Camaro.
NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY
Exterior
Bad to the bone black covers the Z28 bodied car, complete with side vents, wheel opening air dams, and three piece wing. A big cowl hood sucks in air and makes room for the air element, while hood pins hold down the removable fiberglass hood. 15-inch Bogart wheels are on the car and wearing Mickey Thompson tires, the rears on a narrowed axle. It retains headlights and taillights and has a parachute and wheelie bars out back.
Interior
Gray tweed lines the rather pedestrian doors but that's where any semblance of a passenger car ends. The interior is caged in a fuchsia colored chromoly unit and racing seats are bolted in. The removable steering wheel gives way to a gauge cluster with all of the normal functions plus a PSI gauge. Gray tweed serves as the headliner as well and covers the rear deck and tubbed wheel wells. A Hurst shifter is floor mounted next to a controller and a MSD 7AL ignition is mounted to the passenger's floor.
Drivetrain
Mounted on the tube frame, we have a 377ci V8 featuring the following: Dart Iron Eagle block, Scat Super lightweight crank, Oliver steel rods, Comp Cams 700i/672e lift, 273i/284e duration @050 camshaft degreed at 108, Comp Cams lifters, MSD billet distributor, crank trigger. The heads are GM 1013463 aluminum 18 degree heads with 50cc chambers and T&D shaft rockers. The fuel system consists of GM 2 piece high port intake, FAST 160 pound/hour injectors, a Nitrous Express dry fogger system, FAST C-Com EFI with data logger, included Acer laptop with various tunes. A 5 gallon fuel cell, Product Engineering 230gph@100psi dual stage fuel pump, FAST sequential EFI with inductive pickup with 2 stage nitrous capacity & wide band 02 sensing. The 2-speed automatic transmission is a Dedenbear Supercase Powerglide with 1.76 gear ratio, a 10" 3800rpm FB Performance converter and Peterson 10qt dry sump. The rear Ford 9” axle includes large web housing, Richmond Pro gears, Moser 40 Spline gun drilled axles, Moser nodular iron 3rd member, Moser lightweight spool, Moser Daytona aluminum pinion support, billet 4130 yoke, and an Inland Empire 4" aluminum driveshaft.
Undercarriage
The suspension consists of QA1 front shocks, Koni double adjustable rear shocks, rear ARB, rear wishbone, and Chris Alston 4 link. A Wilwood master cylinder controls fluid to Wilwood disc brakes front and rear. Custom built Jet-Hot coated headers begin and end the exhaust system.
Drive-Ability
This is one we simply fired up and moved forward and we find a raucous, functioning engine and working gears. The seats are comfortable a quarter mile at a time.
You could attempt to replicate this car. But wouldn't it be easier to enjoy the fruits of a proven runner that's packed with pure racing hardware and is essentially ready to go. In short order, you could be on the track and the blank exterior is a canvas for your logo, race team name, and sponsors! Race on over to the Classic Auto Mall today and check it out in person. No charge!
