Camaro Z28 Tribute

Description

1971 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Tribute

For consignment, a very nicely restored 1971 Camaro Z28 tribute in stunning Dark Blue Metallic, some snappy white stripes, a cozy and clean black interior, and upsized 17-inch Z28 wheels.  Add in all the fact this is a factory AC car, it is sporting the Rally Sport split bumper front end, and it has a powerful 327ci V8 courtesy of a Corvette and we have a sure-fire winner.

Exterior
With all its steel panels bathed in a deep end of the pool applications of Dark Blue Metallic, there is nary a dent or ding to be seen.  Throw on the Rally Sport front end with pencil thin chrome split bumpers, oval shaped Ferrari-esque egg crate grille, Z28 badge and single headlight flanking on either side, it is as spot on to the real deal as they come, even down to the gunsight equipped chrome trimmed inboard marker lights.  The long undulating hood backs up to a windshield trimmed in bright stainless.  Moving to the back, long wide doors have nicely minded gaps, a thin chrome trim strip and more chrome trimmings for the glass.  The long gracefully sloping rear glass and deck has a correct 3-piece rear spoiler attached, and the round taillights framed by a nearly perfect condition bumper below.   Dual wide white painted stripes are racing rearward from the hood, skip the roof, then continue on over the trunk lid and rear spoiler, ending at the rear panel where the round tail lighting is.  17-inch Z28 wheels with charcoal inserts and polished lips, courtesy of Year One, hold the car off the ground and are wrapped in 275/40ZR17 General GMax blackwall rubber from the 10th week of 2021.  Lest we forget the trunk with its green/gray plaid mat, jack bag, and spare tire cover.

Interior
Black plastic and vinyl shows nicely covering the door panels, and all is looking very good with nary a mark to be seen, with shiny handles and a bar actuator buried in the door.  Slipping inside we note an original canted toward the driver dash with all factory gauges mounted within a black textured panel.  All knobs, pulls and slides are original as is the padded black dash top and lower black plastic section of the dash.  A shiny chrome Camaro emblem in your grandmother's script resides on the glove box door and is looking just fab.  In the center is an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette radio and just below is the airplane throttle style horseshoe shifter handle which grows from the black plastic center console.  Black vinyl buckets, nice and clean are now in front, and in back a 2 plus 2 bench with a black carpeted hump running through the seat portion of this bench.  More black carpeting is flooding all the floor space, and up top is a slightly wrinkled headliner in black.  A black 4 spoke steering wheel and a black and silver Z28 badge in the horn area shows off nicely.

Drivetrain
A lift of the long hood and we are met with a better than stock 327ci V8.  This mill is courtesy of a 1966/67 Corvette and carries the HT stamping code, letting us know this is of the 350hp variety.  On top is a single 4-barrel carburetor mounted to an Edelbrock aluminum intake and a pair of aluminum ribbed valve covers give us some bling as does the chrome air cleaner lid.  Attached to the back of this mill is a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission while a GZ coded 2.73 10-bolt rear axle puts the power to the ground.  All nice, tidy, and buttoned up.

Undercarriage
Up in the air we see a well preserved undercarriage.  Only minor surface rust on the usual suspects: suspension components and around a few of the spot welds.  No invasive rust is seen and the floors are finished in nicely applied black paint.  A dual exhaust system with headers and Flowmaster mufflers runs to the rear of the car for the exhale.  Leaf springs on the rear and an independent coil spring set up gives the ride while power disc brakes are seen on the front and power drums for the rear.  We do note power steering is optioned on to help with those low speed tight turns.

Drivability
My crack decoder and I agreed to a foot race to see who got to wheel this original muscle car.  Luckily for me I tied his bootlaces together under the guise of picking up change in the parking lot.   The mill in this Super Hugger fired right up and I was off to the test track while leaving my decoder in a cloud of dust and gravel.  On the track this car performed well with good acceleration, nice handling, a comfortable ride, and excellent bias free braking.  A great test drive with only the heater blower not working on the high fan speed position, the reverse lights not illuminating and the AC, while blowing cold, was not as chilly as it could have been.  Overall I'm in love with the abundance of clean black styling in the interior.

A great example of the 1971 Camaro version, now labeled Z28.  Nice job on the mill, black vinyl interior, upsized wheel and clean black carpeting all work together to bring you one hell of a driver and one serious looker.  Drive this one without fear, only you'll know it's not a "real" Z.
