Nova Concours

Description

1976 Chevrolet Nova Concours

For consignment, a 1976 Chevrolet Nova Concours.  This one comes to our Hallowed Halls in project form with a 350ci V8 inserted, a new 4-barrel carburetor and a 3-speed automatic.  The exterior still looks like a muscle car but is in need of some TLC, as is the interior and undercarriage.  Think of it as a blank canvas to sate your malaise era muscle car itch.

Exterior
For 1976, a now chromed egg crate grille should be hovering above the rusted and tarnished bumper below leading the way but it has been removed leaving a large mouthlike void.  Our consignor notes that a newly painted grille with its emblem and turn signal cases are included with your purchase.  Turning the corner to the front quarter leads us down the rippled and dented sides that show some surface rust along with invasive rust in a few areas.  The driver's rear quarters is showing in gray primer covering the sculpted body filler that shows with a few deep grinder marks.  This primer also flows to the roof where a 1/2 roof vinyl top once resided.  All the remainder of this car is bathed in a blue metallic respray.  All remaining trimmings are shiny but do have a few dings and some slight oxidation.  A quasi fastback rear deck is within this 1976 design rolls over gently to the rear taillight panel with the shiny rear bumper below.  Dual chrome side pipes hang out from underneath rocker panels and 15-inch Pontiac Rally 2 wheels are on all 4 corners.

Interior
In true mid 1970's form a black vinyl interior and square and rectangle design abounds inside.  The door panels use molded black vinyl screwed on the doors and are showing slight waves to them along with missing armrests.  Minor soiling is on the black, but if a thorough detailing is performed it would improve greatly.  Slightly dirty high back buckets are in front in black vinyl and a bench in the back which shows some with puffy tuck and roll inserts within the shiny smooth black bolsters.  We note the rear bench lower cushion is covered in dark blue broadcloth.  A shiny lacquered faux woodgrain dash bezel houses the square and rectangle design dash.  The padded blue dash top remains crack free and accentuated the blue steel dash face nicely.  We note the radio has been removed and the heater control slides are hanging askew from the dash.  A few added gauges hang from the bottom of the dash and the carpeting has been removed to expose the black and blue steel flooring with multiple amateur patches seen.  The headliner material has been removed allowing the steel structure to show and on the hump is the exposed workings of a B&M shifter.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a non original 350ci V8 in all its orange/red blocked glory.  This is topped with a single Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and aluminum intake manifold.  A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission on the back and sends power to a 10 bolt rear axle.  A chrome Edelbrock air cleaner assembly and ribbed and polished valve covers dress up the bay nicely.

Undercarriage
A smattering of surface rust can be seen throughout, some invasive particularly behind the rear bumper.   The floor pans have a heavy coating of rustproofing and show with the aforementioned patch panels throughout.  Power disc brakes are on front along with an independent coil spring suspension, and power drums are bolted on along with leaf springs for the rear.

Drive-Ability
Despite the cosmetic anomalies, this car fired right up and on the test track performed nicely.

A 1976 version of the grocery getter version of the Nova now in project form and ready for you to make it your own.  It is in need of some TLC, at minimum a good detailing and some parts bolted back on then let your imagination run wild.
