Description

1979 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

For consignment, a Chevrolet Camaro right out of 1979.  This coupe was redone over the course of 2001-2002, was treated to a color change repaint, a rebuilt 350ci V8, a rebuilt automatic transmission, a complete new interior and some era perfect aluminum wheels.  A very nicely presenting and meant to be driven example awaiting you in our Hallowed Halls.  Go out and hug a road you like!

***Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.***

Exterior
This generation of the Camaro has thrown out the conventional chrome bumper and now gone with the crash test approved neoprene V shaped front end, and it is neoprene even surrounding the round single headlights on either side.  Turn signals remain inboard of the headlights and a black sloped forward grille with the badge in the center is looking great.  The long hood and front quarters make their way back to the cabin and are bathed in very nice application of light pewter metallic paint, just like the remainder of the car.  Painted on glossy black stripes race rearward over the hood, stop for the rounded steel roof and pick up again on the trunk lid and swoop over and down the ducktail spoiler.  Long doors allow for easy access, and the rear bench passengers are treated to plenty of light and scenery with the gently sloping wrap-around rear glass which melts into the trunk deck.  The tail lights wrap around the rear quarter and we have a racy design fer sur!  A few flaws and dings are noted in the paint, along with some chipping and light rust bubbling down low on the body.  Finishing off the "look" are slightly polished 14-inch aluminum slot wheels complete with spinner center caps and shod in staggered width blackwall radials.

Interior
As we swing open one of those long doors we see new black vinyl in 3 tiers, smooth tops, wide tuck and roll centers with nicely preserved armrests and door pulls, and a lower smooth panel.  Black vinyl buckets are inside in front and a rear bench stretches from side panel to side panel in the back, all like new as they are freshly redone.  A B&M shifter resides on top of the hump sans console, and above on the bottom center of the dash are twin auxiliary gauges angled toward the driver and a JVC aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio.  The instruments are embedded in a black dash panel and are all round.  Above is a nice padded back topper.  The original steering wheel with its silver badged horn button fronts the gauges and new black carpeting is floating this pristine interior.  Above of course is a tight black perforated headliner and we note some flourish etching on the pointed edged of the wrap around rear glass.

Drivetrain
Under the hood sits a rebuilt approximately 10,000 mile ago 1972 350ci V8.  It is topped with a 4-barrel carburetor and bolted to the back of the mill is a rebuilt in 2005 and sporting about 6,000 miles TH350 3-speed automatic transmission.  An Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley 4-barrel carburetor are in charge of fossil delivery and headers are on for the exhale.  A 10-bolt 2.41 geared rear axle spins the tires.  All is looking solid under this hood with little to no rust and some chromed bling.

Undercarriage
Up on the lift the undercarriage shows some light surface rust on the black patinaed steel structure.  The unibody and flooring as well as the rockers remain solid, as does the dual Flowmaster muffler-equipped exhaust.  Power disc brakes are upfront on the independent coil sprung suspension and power drums and leaf springs are on back.

Drive-Ability
She started right up and on the track it had nice acceleration, good braking and handling.  A fully functional example of a nice driving Mustang eater out of the late 70's.

A splendid driver with a rebuilt drivetrain, a recent repaint, and a new interior.  Not without a few faults and flaws, but nothing that will keep you from driving this beauty and beaming from ear to ear with a smile on your face.  This generation is some of the best-looking Camaros around, so why not treat yourself and your garage to this screamer out of 1979.
