Description

1962 Chevrolet II Nova

The Chevy Nova was a compact competitor in the legendary American pony wars. While the 1960's and 1970's witnessed a fight between American automotive manufacturers to produce the fastest and most powerful muscle cars, the Chevy Nova was just right when it came to size, speed, and affordability. But it didn't start out as the Chevy Nova…not quite, anyway. Eager to produce a budget-friendly compact muscle car, Chevy introduced the Chevy II. As a model name, Nova was relegated to runner-up name because it didn't start with C. However, Nova was chosen as the name for the higher-end, sportier trim option, and did eventually replace Chevy II as the car's official name in 1969.

For consignment a piece of early muscle car, before they knew of such a term muscle car. This one has been meticulously restored, and now presents as close to perfect as one can get. You will have to look long and hard to find fault with this absolutely great restoration. This car looks so much like original but has lots of upgrades, so we will place it in the category of resto-mod.

Exterior
With a respray only 4 years ago, the exterior bathed in silver, retains its shine like an uncirculated Kennedy silver dollar. All steel panels are straight as an arrow and have very well minded gaps. Chrome and brite-work is very clean and shiny with no dimpling or fading. An interesting slotted gas cap adds some extra security in case someone wants to get fancy with the sugar. On the rear quarter of the driver's side are stickers doubling as bullet holes and can be easily removed. 15-inch Chevrolet Rally style wheels are wrapped with 195/65R15 black walls all around. Twinkle Twinkle.

Interior
Replacing the original interior, we now have a comfortable enough for the long trip split bench in the front and full bench in the rear. These have crushed velour in black with tuck and roll panels, and black velour bolsters. Gray piping is seen throughout on all the edges of the seats. The door panels are all smooth stretched vinyl, and sport embroidered lettering in the form of 62 Nova in white on the front sills. Original shaped dash remains, but new digital white-faced gauges have been added along with a steering mounted tachometer, and shift light. A Kenwood digital AM/FM/CD radio replaces the original and has been expertly mounted into the dash. Vintage air and heat hang under the dash, black carpet covers the floors and a tight black headliner in vinyl is atop. Also, a mention to the B&M shifter all chromed up and sitting on the hump. A shout out to the trunk with is also perfectly lined in black and appears to have some extra stereo components snuck in under the cloth coverings. Boom chackka lakka...Boom

Drivetrain
305 cubes of tuned port injected V8 with a K&N filter on top. A 700R automatic transmission throws power back to a 10-bolt rear with 3.43 gears. Nice headers evacuate the spent gases from the mill and continue the exit through a MagnaFlow dual exhaust system. Vrrrrrrrroom!

Undercarriage
We are struck with new floorboards, trunk and gas tank. Frame is rust free and looks nicely painted. A Mustang II suspension and frame connectors provide excellent handling and stability. New U joints, shocks and springs also help in the smooth ride department. Power disc brakes have been added on all 4 corners. All good underneath. Ugggggh STRONG!

Drive-Ability
A quick lighter, and smooth idler, this car has an awesome exhaust sound. I give it a little goose, and off we go, cruising or running fast, this car does it all. Also, the new seats are truly comfortable, as well as the digital gauges help keep track of the engine's vitals and tell me when to shift (although in the interest of respect I did so waaaay before that light came on.) Yowza!

A very nice job, with just a few faults upon looking really closely, but all in all a meticulously performed. Plenty of upgrades, a new engine, and plush interior which is way more comfortable than the original interior from 1962, and your fans will be turning their heads…Ooggle..oggle.
