On the lot now is definitely something you don't see too often! This 1972 Mercury Cougar is a wonderful example of early '70s luxury performance. Sold from 1967 to 2002, the Cougar is the highest-selling nameplate produced by the Mercury brand with 2,972,784 examples produced over its lifetime. The 2nd-Gen Cougar, of which this car is an example, was built from 1971 to 1973 and was the final version of the Cougar derived from the Ford Mustang. Even as it shared much of its bodyshell with the Mustang, the 2nd-Gen Cougar began to move away from the "plush pony car" stereotype to incorporate its own unique aspects of both sports cars and luxury cars. This solid Cougar is powered by an H-code 351 "Cleveland" V8 paired to a 2-barrel carburetor. H-code 351s were equipped with a cast-iron crankshaft, two-bolt main bearing caps, forged-steel connecting rods, cast-aluminum pistons, non-adjustable valve train, and cast-iron intake and exhaust manifolds. All H-code 351 Cleveland engines used small port 2V heads with open combustion chambers. Power from the Cleveland then gets to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission mated to a 2.75:1 Ford 9" rear axle. The white vinyl bucket seats in addition to the interior matching the white vinyl top are in excellent condition and are perfect for cruising! Options on this cool Cougar include air conditioning, a working horn, power steering, power brakes, power wipers, adjustable mirrors, a factory AM pushbutton radio, adjustable seats and seatbelts, and a dual exhaust system. The car rides on a great-looking set of American Racing wheels on top of some cool Cooper Cobra RWL tires. This uncommon Cougar rides just as nicely as it sounds, and all it needs is a little paintwork to make it a true show-quality car!
