"Better than New"
The Mercury Cougar was first introduced in 1967 and finally gave the brand its own pony car. The Cougar was based on the Mustang and featured a lot of shared mechanicals but a three inch longer wheelbase. The exterior was meant to evoke a more European flavor and the car was said to have drawn inspiration from the Jaguar E-type. 1970 was the last year for the first generation Cougar and included a host of changes including more standard features, revised styling, and a new 351cid “Cleveland” V8 engine option.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this freshly restored, gorgeous, 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible for your consideration. It is powered by its 351 Windsor v8 that was completely rebuilt consisting of bored engine block, new pistons, rings, camshaft, rod and main bearings, all valves, lifters, timing chain, water pump, belts, hoses, spark plugs and wires. The transmission was also completely rebuilt. The brake master cylinder was rebuilt along with new front calipers, new brake lines and hoses. The rear brakes have new cylinders and new hardware. The following are also all new : windshield, ball joints, control valve assembly, radiator, air conditioner condenser, heater core, front and rear shocks, battery, dual exhaust, tires, rims, convertible top, seats, gas tank, sending unit and fuel pump, carpet and weather stripping. There are just 70 short miles on this car since the restoration. Other highlights include hideaway headlights, power brakes, power steering, BF Goodrich tires on 14 inch wheels, center console, dash clock, spare tire and jack, AM/FM radio. The original wheels are also available for the car.
