Frame Off Restored GTO Convertible 389/360 HP Tri-Power V8 Muncie 4 Speed
If you're a fan of style, speed and comfort, you simply can't go wrong with Pontiac's storied GTO. The goat practically defined the golden age of Detroit, and by the time its first production run was over, it had become the best-selling muscle car of all time. Not surprisingly, demand for these cornerstone classics continues to be strong. The product of an extensive frame-off restoration, this 1965 GTO drop-top is one of the nicest GTO's to sit under our showroom lights. Only trailered since its extensive restoration in 2011, it shows as if the restoration was finished yesterday. The burgundy is flawless and when you glance inside, it's hard to argue with the decision to convert it over to white interior. The lines are crisp and straight and panel gaps are measured and consistent. Tough, understated and attractive, this GTO perfectly defines Pontiac's lasting legacy of tempering sophistication with aggression. The front of the car is dominated by trademark, stainless-trimmed grilles that are anchored between stacked headlights, a pristine, satin-finish arrowhead and a broad chrome bumper. Lift the hood to find GTO power in the form of a date-code correct 360hp 389ci V8. The powerful mill is branded with a 9778789 casting code and a WS code stamped under the passenger side cylinder head and a L94 (December 9th, 1964) casting date in the distributor valley. The date matches the car's early January build date well. Topped with a correct Tri-Power setup, it spins to life easily and idles with none of the fussiness that other multi-carburetor engines seem to experience. If you were paying attention you would have noticed that this car originally left the factory with a black vinyl interior, but during its extensive frame off restoration the owner decided to go with a white or parchment vinyl interior to accent the burgundy exterior. Open the doors and you'll see the stylish diagonal pattern that is unique to the GTO and the symmetry of the seats in this car is the result of careful fitting and lots of extra time spent during final assembly.
