Documented Restored Cougar Eliminator 302 V8 4 Speed
Looking for a unique pony car? Try this 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator. Fresh out of a comprehensive restoration, it shows and drives as new. The pristine body panels wear a coat of Ford's super light Code N Pastel Blue which is complemented by the Eliminator package's black body-length stripes. The professional paintwork looks great from every angle and panel fitment is superior to anything that left Ford's Dearborn, Michigan assembly plant in 1970. Accented by a chin spoiler, blacked out grille, air foil wing and discrete "Eliminator" decals, the race-friendly treatment completely changes the Cougar's personality. Furthering the image is the Mustang-derived Boss 302 V8 that produces 290hp. Though not the car's original engine, it carries the correct D0ZE-6015-A casting number and a 9H9 (August 9th, 1969) date code that syncs up with the cars September 29th build date. Rebuilt to stock specs, right down to the hard-to-find Autolite rev limiter the engine starts immediately, sounds great and packs plenty of punch. Behind that 302, a Hurst-equipped Toploader 4-speed makes shifting a pleasure. Further down the driveline, a nodular nine-inch differential is stuffed with launch-happy 3.91 gears. Steering is manual but braking is power-assisted with disc brakes up front and drum brakes out back. At the corners, Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 tires are wrapped around 14x6 steel wheels topped with dog-dish hubcaps and chrome beauty rings. Inside, a Medium blue vinyl interior offers Comfortweave vinyl seats, an AM/FM stereo and little else in the way of amenities. Well-restored and genuinely comfortable, even this stripped down Mercury is better than most.
