1960 Dodge

Phoenix D-500 SOLD

CMC is proud to have this extremely rare 1960 Dodge D-500 Pheonix in our showroom! Powered by the rare 383 Cubic Inch Police Interceptor Engine mated to a 4-Speed Transmission and 4:10 rear, this was truly a one of kind muscle car.

The Pheonix was known as the "Lebanon Legend", as it was special ordered new by Bob Blouch in July of 1960 at Zartman Dodge located in Lilitz,Pennsylvania. The car was ordered with the only manual transmission available at the time, a 3 Speed Manual. Bob was a hot rodder that knew the 383 shared the same bolt pattern with the Chevrolet Borg-Warner T-10 4-Speed and ordered the transmission as he ordered his new car.

As a police Package 383 and 4:10 rear was not available to the public, The IBM build card is blank in the engine and rear end columns The Heavy Duty Manual Transmissions, only available on "B" series High Performance engines is shown in the transmission column.

According to retired Chrysler VP and D500 Guide author Darrell Davis, Dodges records indicate 6 383 High performance darts were built and only 1 had a manual transmission.

Over the years Bob earned great respect from other drivers and racers, both on the street and drag strip, becoming an area legend.

Second owner, Mark Eisenhower owned the car and stored in a barn outside Hershey in the late 1970's. Upon passing away, Dennis Haak purchased the car in 1998 and kept it until 2011. Mark Jacobs purchased the car for his private collection and we just purchased the car from his estate.

The condition of this Dodge is incredible. The car was restored as needed throughout the years and still retains the original interior which is still in plastics. The dash and chrome is excellent. The engine has been rebuilt and still has the high lift cam. The 4 Speed manual is still with the car and shifts effortlessly. A few years back this car was driven 800 miles to the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The car is very well sorted and is an absolute blast to drive.

Options that are shown on the original build certificate include the color code BB1 Raven black exterior with Trim 164 red interior. Other options included a padded dash, music master radio, 800-14 WWW tires, bumper guards, glare roof mirror, Sure grip rear end, wheel covers, stone shields, electric clock, windshield washer, map light, brake warning light, glove box light and trunk light.

The incredible documentation includes the complete history and a list of all the owners from new. The car has a letter from Chrysler Corp and a copy of the original build sheet. The car has the owners manual, dealers color brochure, dealer manual, a complete diary of the cars history, photos of the car at drag strip back in the day, The 1960 Dodge D-500 Guide, original instructions on 4 Speed transmission, and original Chrysler build record certificate.
