Firebird Trans Am 455

Description

Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this 1-owner 5,217 original mile 1976 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 4-Speed Coupe!

First released by Pontiac in 1967 to compete with the Ford Mustang, the Firebird was an instant hit having sold over 275,000 in the first generation with the popularity continuing throughout the 1970's. The second generation was a radical change in styling going to a more svelte European design which was well received having sold nearly 1.2 million of them between 1970-1981. With political, economic, and pop culture shaping the decade, the Firebird found success in sex appeal versus raw horsepower as they became flashier but less powerful and it was available in several sub-model trims including the Esprit, Formula, and range topping Trans Am named after the SCCA's famous racing series.

This single owner 1976 Trans Am is presented in a handsome color combo of Sterling Silver over a Black Deluxe Vinyl interior. Per the data tag, the existing original paperwork, and testament from the original owner; it was built during the 2nd week of March of 1976 and was ordered new on January 2nd, 1975 from Charles Geil Pontiac, Buick, Opel in Logan, Ohio for $5,281. It remained with the original owner in Logan, Ohio, never having left Hocking county, until a few weeks ago when we acquired it and enclosed shipped it to our Michigan showroom. This Trans Am was a prized possession of the original owner having ordered it new as spec'd in which he only drove it on special occasions; hence it has accumulated just 5,217 miles over the last 44 years.

Per the original window sticker this example is optioned with $666.40 in options, the most important of which is the numbers matching and date code correct code WX L75 455ci V8 engine package that included a 4-speed manual, 3.23 rear-end, and a high-flow exhaust. The engine was rated for 200hp at 3,000 rpm and 330 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm. It is also optionally equipped with a tilt steering column, AM/FM radio, rear seat speakers, and the custom interior trim package which consisted of the deluxe trim with bucket seats and other ornamentation and was delivered with an as equipped weight of 3,688lbs. The overall condition of the car is genuinely nice and can be labeled as a survivor as it has never been taken apart and restored and was always garage kept.

Accompanying the sale is a large assortment of paperwork and documentation dating back to when it was ordered new including the original sales contract, original window sticker, 3 original build sheets, copy of the original title, original EPA fuel mileage disclaimer showing 12mpg city and 17mpg highway, and past registrations from '76, '77, '79, '80, '81, '88, '90, and '91. Additionally, it has also been fully authenticated and documented by Jim Mattison at Pontiac Historical Services (PHS). It verified to be a legitimate numbers matching 455 engine with the correct and original “WX” stamping, “455” casting, VIN stamping, and date code stampings as depicted in the photos.

For the 1976 model year, 110,775 Firebirds were produced in which 46,701 (42%) were Trans Am's. Additionally, just 7,099 (6.4%) were non Limited Edition Trans AM models equipped with the L75 455ci V8 engine; all of which came equipped with the 4-speed manual transmission. Decoding the VIN reveals the following: 2 = Pontiac, W = Trans Am, 87 = 2-Door Sport Coupe, W = 455ci V8 Engine, 6 = 1976, N = Norwood, Ohio Assembly, 557912 = 57,912th unit produced (52% through the annual build). Decoding the Data Tag reveals the following: ST76 = 1976, 2FS87 = Pontiac Firebird Coupe, N = Norwood, Ohio Assembly, 170837 = Fisher Body Number, 19N = Deluxe Black Vinyl interior, A51 = Bucket Seats, 13L 13U = Upper and Lower Paint in Sterling Silver, 03B = Assembled during the 2nd week of March, 1976, WS4 = Trans Am, BLK = Black secondary interior color, 540809 = Fisher Body Date Code.

Do not miss this incredible opportunity to acquire this beautifully presented, single owner, 455 Trans Am with just over 5,200 original miles. It comes complete with its original books, manuals, keys, and original paperwork that are all in excellent condition in addition to the PHS documentation validating this true survivor time capsule Trans Am.
