Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this exciting one owner 2002 Pontiac Firebird Formula Firehawk Coupe
In 1991, Pontiac and SLP joined forces to create a new high performance version of the Firebird; the SLP Firehawk. This option was only available on Firebird Formulas in which just 43 examples were produced. When the fourth generation debuted in 1993 the exclusive Firehawk option would continue through the final 2002 model year aside for 1998. In total just 5,237 Firehawks were produced from 1991 through 2002. Street Legal Performance, or SLP, was chosen by Pontiac as the outsourced up fitter for Formula's and Trans Am's equipped with option code WU6 which signified the Firehawk option for 1999-2002 models. In the early 2000's it became the worst kept secret that GM was discontinuing the Formula and Tran Am sports cars after the 2002 model year which has made the 2002 Firehawk versions the most sought-after model.
The final edition of the Firehawk package included intake and exhaust upgrades to the 5.7-liter LS1 engine increased output to 345hp which was the same rating of the corporate cousin, the C5 Corvette. Additional exclusive Firehawk modifications include a twin-scoop hood with heat extractors, unique 17-inch five-spoke wheels fitted with ZR-rated Firestone Firehawk tires, and suspension upgrades that firmed up the handling to create a complete package that honed all of the Firebird's inherent strengths. In total just 1,501 Firehawks were produced for the final 2002 model year: 1,334 based on the Trans Am and 167 based on the Formula.
This example is #805 of the 1,501 Firehawks produced for 2002 and it is 1 of 167 Formula Firehawks; 116 of which were equipped with the 6-speed manual in which just 17 of those were painted Bright Red making it a 1 of 17 as produced. It is a one owner example that was ordered new as spec'd and delivered to Somerset Pontiac GMC in Troy, MI. These came essentially fully loaded hence the only factory option chosen is the reclining bucket leather sport seats. The base SLP Firehawk option cost $4,299 and it is further optioned with chrome wheels, Bilstein suspension, custom Firehawk floormats, commemorative portfolio, and custom car cover for a total of $6,514 in SLP modifications on top of the $27,015 for the Firebird Formula for a total MSRP of $33,430.
Today it shows just 15,635 miles and presents in excellent shape having been fastidiously cared for by its singular owner. It comes complete with of its original literature, books, manuals, keys, both window stickers, its birth certificate, invoice paperwork, original delivery odometer statement showing 5 miles, original delivery report, and hand written notes by the original owner on the progress of the car as it was being built and delivered. It presents in highly original condition with the only modification being a short throw shifter in which the original shifter is include with the sale along with a second full set of lug nots with locks. This is truly a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most exclusive Pontiac Firebirds ever produced.
