This 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6 is far more than just a late-model muscle car—it's a documented piece of Daytona 500 history with a story that sets it apart from virtually every other fourth-generation F-body on the market. As a Collector Edition, this car is number 926 of just 2,391 produced, but more importantly, it is one of only 43 specially designated Daytona 500 Parade Lap cars built for 2002. This example is number 29, corresponding to the starting position of Bill Elliott in that year's race, giving it a direct tie to one of NASCAR's most iconic drivers.
Its history only gets better from there. This Firebird Trans Am was part of a promotional giveaway following the Daytona 500 and was presented by Jay Leno, who served as the official pace car driver that year. The original contest winner never titled the vehicle and immediately offered it for sale, preserving its early history in a way few cars ever experience. The first titled owner then held onto the car for 19 years before selling it in 2021, with the current owner acquiring it directly and maintaining its integrity ever since.
The car comes with an impressive collection of documentation that truly elevates its collectibility. Included are the original window sticker, build sheet, and official letters from Pontiac authenticating its status as a Daytona Parade Lap car. There are also period photos of Jay Leno with the contest winner, along with the original sale listing from when the car first became available. It's rare to find a car with this level of supporting history—everything that makes the story real is here.
This Firebird has lived a well-preserved life, always stored in climate-controlled environments, first in Florida and later in South Carolina. It has been driven and enjoyed as intended, currently showing 67k miles, and will continue to see occasional fair-weather use. Mechanically, it remains very original, with the only modification being drilled and slotted rotors. The brakes have less than 5,000 miles on them, and the tires have under 2,000 miles.
Cosmetically, the car presents extremely well for a driven example. It retains original paint throughout with the exception of the front license plate cover, and while there are minor rock chips consistent with use, it remains exceptionally clean overall. The interior is equally well-kept, though like many Firebirds of this era, the door panels do show the common cracking. A clean Carfax report is available and supports the car's careful ownership history.
With its ultra-limited production, documented Daytona 500 connection, celebrity involvement, and extensive original paperwork—including the window sticker—this is a truly standout example of a Collector Edition Firebird Trans Am. Opportunities to own one this complete and this well-documented are few and far between.
Price does not include applicable tax, title, license, processing, and/or $240 documentation fees.
