What is a 1967 Camaro Indy 500 Commitment Fleet Replica?
• Approximately 54 Vehicles in total.
• Built at GM Norwood Ohio plant
• Produced from 03-C to 05-A
Fisher Body Plate coded:
• “0” Paint Special - White Convertible top “1” or “0-1”
• 732-Interior trim Code
• Rally Sport Equipped
• Super Sport Equipped
Dash(-) at the end of the last group of option codes signifying the deletion of the standard color nose stripe.
Factory painted blue pin stripes on sides of vehicle (Indianapolis Pace Car exclusive factory color) and a Marina Blue accent “Bumble Bee” Nose stripe was applied.
One set of “Official Pace Car Decals” shipped with each car. Decal design was developed and produced by General Motors ad agency Campbell Ewald.
These are considered 1st tier promotional support vehicles and were special built for Official Chevrolet sponsored activities surrounding the Indy 500 race in April and May of 1967. The most known of these vehicles is car # 92 which was the Actual Pace Car, used which set the pace lap at the Indy 500 in 1967. The backup pace car was #90 for use in the event #92 experienced mechanical failure.
The remaining Commitment Fleet Replicas all appeared identical in appearance and all with the same options fitted as the #92 Actual Pace Car. There was however several engine and transmission combinations and these cars served in the following capacities:
• Forty-three ”Festival cars” - These were the Indy 500 “Festival Committee cars” and were used for any Indy 500 Festival duties such as the down town parade and other associated duties.
• Ten “Speedway Vehicles” - These were in general support of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and were used by Speedway Staff.
Other Cars…
• 40 “Brass hat” Cars - these were in general service to Chevrolet Corporate VIPs. Of the Brass hats many were not 0-1 Camaro pace car replicas, but some were. Of these 40 cars Chevrolet projected 25 additional Camaros for issuance in total. These had option content that was a scattering of non-SS equipped coupes. Also in this zone car population, were SS C-4 (Blue Top convertibles) and regular RPO SS Camaros as well.
