2001 Ford Mustang Saleen S281 Coupe

For consignment, a 2001 Ford Mustang Saleen S281 S/C coupe with a title verified 27,884 actual miles. Just 243 Saleen S281 S/C coupes were made in 2001 making this a fairly rare car. Unlike Roush which offered stages, S281's were complete packages with varying body styles and aspiration configurations.

Exterior
We don't know how many Saleens were Zinc Yellow, but this is the first we've had the honor of representing, and it will catch your attention like a dayglo construction vest! Of course, it has all the exterior goodies including a new aerodynamic fascia, (part of Saleen's air management design), with the car's individual number affixed, (156). There are Steve's distinctive rocker stripes and stylish print, a rear bumper cover with ducts, splitters and cutouts for the exhaust, multi finned rear fender intakes, and the extra spicy rear spoiler which extends like an ironing board. You can't help but notice the special 18-inch Saleen wheels, each wrapped in a low profile ZR rated tire. Imperfections include scuffs on the lower than stock chin spoiler, scuffs on the front bumper cover. 

Interior
Your standard black door panels coat the inside and nothing wrong with that as they are clean, handsome and ergonomic. Same with the black leather bucket seats which are comfortable and supportive and along with the rear 2+2, are in great shape. The charcoal palette continues through the steering wheel and dash surround, but the instrument cluster face plate matches the exterior yellow, looking good with Saleen branded white faced dials.  Perched on the dash are additional gauges for boost pressure and intercooler temp, followed by your standard center stack with AM/FM/6 CD player and A/C panel, all seamlessly leading to the shifter housing where a slightly patina'd leather knob tops a clean booted close ratio shifter. Charcoal carpet for the floor where special Saleen pedals reside, gray headliner above, and finished trunk, now with speaker box included. 

Drivetrain
Nothing overly showy in the engine bay, just good, clean fun in the form of a 4.6 liter SOHC supercharged V8, good for 365 horses and mated to a Tremec 3650 5-speed manual that sends power to the Ford 8.8” rear with 3.27 gears and TracLoc. 

Undercarriage
Here's where Saleen works some more magic with his Racecraft suspension with beefier than stock coil springs front and rear along with a 4 link in the back and meaty sway bars. The power disc brakes on all four wheels are enhanced and the dual exhaust travels through a Saleen performance system and original equipment ending with expanded tips out back. Minimal surface rust and no oil underneath, just some typical patina.  

Drive-Ability
Part show car, part street beast, this Saleen is a treat for the senses, especially sight and sound as the exhaust system and its improved breathability, announces its presence with track friendly roar. The car has obvious power underfoot and handling is off the charts good. Shifts are crisp and the car pulls throughout the RPM range encouraging more throttle, but we only need 50% to affirm its power. We find the A/C not working but all other functions available to the driver operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.  

Rise and shine with this sun colored pony car that is as vibrant as it is fast. Sure, you could have one of the 45,000 GT's produced in 2001, or for a few shekels more you could have something truly special, one of just 916 Saleen S281's created for that year. And one of just a handful in Zinc Yellow. This is a sweet ride!
