2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS Coupe
For consignment, a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS with a title verified 34,550 actual miles and a number of modifications that result in a consignor stated 650 horsepower. Yes, when 426 horsepower just isn't enough, we explore work to the heads, exhaust, and auxiliary components to create a virtual Trojan horse where the outside looks factory and a beast lies in wait under the hood.
Exterior
The “new” Camaro borrowed design cues from the first generation and blew them up to modern proportions and to accommodate modern safety features and trends. Our car is finished in two stage Aqua Blue Metallic and is adorned with silver hood stripes that are matched on the decklid. A Heritage grille has been added which replaces the eggcrate grille and gives the aggressive front end a bit more attitude, aided by RS darkened headlights and intake scoop on the nose. Broad body panels rise to a turret like cabin with narrow and sleek windows and a sharply raked windshield. The rear features chrome trimmed tail lights, reverse lights embedded in the valance, and big twin exhaust pipes carved into the rear splitter. 20-inch Weld wheels, 5 spoked and black with chrome barrels, are the only external cue that something is afoot with this Camaro. Imperfections include a chip in the paint, multiple scrapes under the chin, a ding over a wheel opening, and a touched up mark.
Interior
A glossy gray panel highlights the molded black plastic door panel, simple, clean, and ergonomic. Black leather bucket seats are beefy and supportive and feature SS embroidered in the substantial headrests. The rear 2+2 seats are in pristine condition and the molded sidewalls are featureless beyond the small armrest. The meaty leather wrapped steering wheel has a number of thumb controls and the gray rimmed gauges on the dash are square framed and large and flank a digital readout. The center stack features some red rimmed knobs and a series of control buttons under a small screen. An AM/FM/CD radio features XM capability, Bluetooth, Boston Acoustic speakers, and MP3 capability. A Barton short throw shifter stands aggressively behind the quad gauge pod synonymous with Camaros. Low pile charcoal carpet covers the floor protected by carpeted mats and the solid roof car is covered by a molded cloth headliner, all in great shape. The trunk includes a gray mat and shows a bit of usage but is otherwise clean.
Drivetrain
Only mild visual cues to any modifications, the clean 6.2 liter, 362ci LS3 power plant has some internal additions that include a .650 lift cam and ported and polished heads. A ZL1 fuel pump has been added and once that fuel is burned, long tube headers send it on its way. The Tremec TR6060 transmission is a 6-speed manual that sends the ponies the limited slip rear with 3.45 gears. Of course, power disc brakes are found front and rear.
Undercarriage
Remarkably clean underneath with no surface rust or errant oil anywhere, all boots are intact and there is no exposed grease on the knuckle or anywhere else. The 3” stainless steel dual exhaust meets a pair of Flowmaster mufflers and then exits with pipeline sized tips. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and 4.5 link on the independent rear.
Drive-Ability
What's hidden on the exterior is revealed in the exhaust note, which is booming and guttural and everything we love about 3” dual exhaust! The shifter is crisp, and the car gives up more of its cards with the idle. Once rolling, there is an eagerness in its power, but it is completely streetable and tame at low speeds. As predicted, all functions work on this low mileage modern Camaro and while we didn't test its potency, by all evidence provided to ears and “seat of the pants,” there's a lot of fun to be had here. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
A wolf in sheep's clothing? Not really because the Gen 5 Camaros looked aggressive from the factory, even when packing the base V6. With some subtle exterior clues and interior features, this car offers all the good stuff of the 2SS but has been tweaked to pull some horses and provides a bellowing song that is as satisfying as its aqua paint. If you bought the V6 and said “I coulda had a V8” now's your opportunity to get one infused with a bit of hi-po love.
