Description

2002 Firebird Trans Am WS6 Coupe

For consignment, a one owner 2002 Firebird Trans Am WS6 with a ridiculously low title verified 17,014 actual miles. This is one of 854 spec'd with Bright Red paint, a manual transmission, T-tops, and the WS6 package. What began in 1969 with the first Trans Am for consumers ended in 2002 with the end of the line. Yes, 2002 was the last year for the Trans Am and unlike the Camaro, it's not coming back as Pontiac shut its doors in 2010. Here's an opportunity to get a car you missed out on, a final year Trans Am with the desirable WS6 package.

Exterior
Our car wears two stage Bright Red paint in glossy glowing glory. Any time we host this era WS6 at the mall, we are wowed by its face which is a symmetrical sight to behold. The inset fog lights, the hidden headlights, and those enormous nostril like air intakes gives the car the character of a fire breathing dragon. A steeply raked windshield leads to a T-top roof, more stable than a convertible with all the open air fun. The rear wing is like a shelf that hugs the curved rear window and shoots backwards to ward off turbulence while keeping the tail planted. The honeycomb pattern in the tail lights is a nod to the Trans Am heritage motif and the Borla exhaust tips are distinctive and forever cool. 17-inch chrome wheels make up the shoes. This T/A, with its monochromatic red, strays from the decal rich T/A's of yesteryear and the paint is in fantastic shape.

Interior
Standard black door panels with textured plastic and gray buttons show no wear. Ebony leather buckets seats are sports car focused and have prominent side bolsters and the accordion style flex zone used in Trans Ams since the late 1980's GTAs. The rear 2+2 seats have deep bottoms and look like they've never been used. The beefy black steering wheel is sculpted for good grip and is where more gray buttons reside for radio control. A standard dash continues the monochromatic interior, and the center stack features large, gray plastic buttons and knobs for radio and heater and AC controls. A leather booted Hurst shifter is in the center console and its leather clad knob conforms with the factory interior. Low pile black carpet is essentially flawless and protected by rubber mats decorated with a red dragon, not coincidentally.

Drivetrain
The 5.7 liter LS1 V8 under the sculpted hood generates 325 horsepower. This one is equipped with a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission which heads to the 10-bolt rear with 3.42 gears. Under the hood, plastic panels create a uniform look and the undulating intake plenum reveals the path of the air after it is inhaled. Power disc brakes at all four corners help slow the car down.

Undercarriage
With just 17k pampered miles, we expected a clean underside and the car delivered. Save for the normal surface rust on the rear axle and torque arm brackets, everything is virtually spotless. The exhaust comes from the engine and joins into a single pipe, in this case, a Borla stainless steel unit, which enters a Borla muffler, then splits again to four exhaust tips. Coil suspension occupies the front independent suspension while a torque arm and coil springs live in the back.

Drive-Ability
The car is so fresh it's still wearing its original tires! That being said, we weren't about to test their high speed capacity and rolled this practically new car around the loop to test functionality. The 5.7 has plenty of grunt and the Borla exhaust really improves the sound, but if you want to go back to stock, it comes with the car. Handling is superb and the braking is no problem! Everything else works as advertised!

F-body collectability is on the rise, and that includes 4the generation Trans Am. 6-speed manual, T-tops, WS6, what more could you ask for? Maybe at the time these final T/A's were released, you weren't in a position to take the wheel. 22 years later this low mileage, mostly stock example waits for you to pull the trigger! Don't hesiTAte!
