Description

1948 Ford F1 Pickup Extended Cab

Launched in 1948, the F-Series was Ford's first new model after World War II. Ford had offered factory-built pickups as early as 1925, but they were largely car-based. In fact, it offered the same model for most of the 1930s. With its unique sheet metal, single-piece windshield, and multiple chassis designations, (F-1 to F-3 pickups, with medium- and heavy-duty models going all the way to F-8), Ford showed a country it was ready to get back to work.

For consignment, the first year for this F1 showing as a 1948 Ford F1 Step side pickup. This very cool working tool which has been slammed just a bit, has a custom grill, and presents all in flat black. Chromed trimmings pepper the exterior but are kept to a minimum for that menacing look. A rarely seen extended cab version from this year she's ready to top and show.

Exterior
The bulbous fenders running board connecting a large and incharge design truck. It has straight rust-free steel and well minded gaps. The front '51 grille is all flat black fiberglass except for the rounded V form running through the center in chrome. A custom valance for the area where the bumper used to be gives this '48 an aero look, and this valence melts right into the bottoms of those big front fenders also now fiberglass. These flank the bulbous hood which now has snazzy flame chromed vents in the sides, replacing the original boring ones! A nicely rounded glass door is on either side, and just behind the extended cab area courtesy a '51 truck with larger side and rear glass showing in pristine condition. On the back, more flat black rounded fiberglass rear fenders with the bed in the center. These fenders have a teardrop taillight on their very back near the bottom, and we can see all the metal exterior for the bed is also in pristine condition. Big 3-inch exhaust pipes peek out from under the shaved bumper bottom, and lowering the tailgate shows us the bed which is in lacquered oak plywood which has a nice warm tone. 15-inch Pacer wheels are gleaming for your attention on all 4 corners.

Interior
Grabbing your attention when opening the doors is a raspberry accenting paint for the sills, dash and steering column. This raspberry mixes with black painted panels on the doors and a gray vinyl panel below the black. Gray carpeting supports some broadcloth buckets with snazzy inserts in checkered flag fade to gray inserts. A custom fabricated center console is between the buckets. Behind the buckets in the extended cab area, we see red painted original metal, some foam coverings and the battery now mounted behind the passenger seat. Back to the dash where aluminum ovals within the raspberry painted metal, provide the background for the instrument cluster in white faced, with black letters and numbers VDO rounds. There is another smaller oval in the dash center which houses the Southern A/C controls as well as the heater.

Drivetrain
A lift of the hood and whammo! All shiny and chromed surfaces just gleaming in its 454ci V8 form. It has been bored over .030 and sports a new crank, rods and pistons. It is fed by an Edelbrock 4-barrel carb and intake manifold. On the back is a 700R4 4 speed automatic transmission. The beautifully chromed and gleaming and machined look, all in grays and bling engine has been spending time on the dyno and weighs in at 505hp's

Undercarriage
Fully restored all buttoned up and painted black with virtually no road dirt. Scott Rod provides the front independent coil over suspension, and leaf springs for the rear supporting a Ford 8-inch rear axle. Power disc brakes on front and power drums on back. There is also a hidden under the plate Class 3 hitch if ya need it!

Drive-Ability
Our crack decoder and muscle car nut took the wheel for the test drive, and he returned with a smile… This says he likes it! Mikey! He reported it's a screamer, with neck snapping acceleration, quick braking, and good handling. It definitely makes some noise as well and it's not from the radio! All functions reported as good thumbs up.

Flat black with a peppering of chrome accenting and some fiberglass for weight reduction and you are good to go. Turn the key and off with you to go and have loads of fun, because hey! It's a pickup...get it?
