241ci Hemi V8/4-Speed Gyro-Torque Automatic/Nicely Restored Interior
1953 Dodge Coronet Sedan
In 1953, the Coronet was Dodge's top-of-the-line car, with plenty of chrome trim and exquisite interiors. Still, many basics were available only as options: turn signals, heater, radio, windshield washers, backup lights and a clock. In reality, the Coronet was really an upgraded trim level of the basic Meadowbrook line. It was a handsome car, with an air scoop on the nose under the hood ornament. The chrome belt-line sweeping across the lower door panels and over the rear fenders made the 1953 Dodge lineup look quite distinctive.
For consignment a fully restored all buttoned up and ready for the prom 1953 Dodge Coronet 4 door Sedan. Still in 6-volt form, and since it spent many years in storage our consigner put a new fuel system in, from tank to carburetor and in between. Also totally rebuilt brake system, new plugs, wires and points and now it runs like a Swiss watch. Sadly, due to health reasons our consignor reluctantly needs to pass it on for others to enjoy. Turn the key and go back in time to 1953.
Exterior
Straight rust free steel is bathed in big beautiful bling shiny burgundy paint. Chrome trimmings including the front grille and bumper, headlight bezels, front hood opening trim, ram hood ornament, window trimmings, trim spears, wheel well surrounds and of course the rear lights and bumper, and near perfect badging, ladies and gentlemen we have a beaut! Wide whites with shiny dog dish red badge DODGE wheels are all around. 4 large doors provide access to the next section I'm gonna describe so swing away…
Interior
Near showroom door panels utilize painted uppers in a steel blue, with some square multi colored blue striped broadcloth housing the perfect gray vinyl armrest, door actuators and window cranks and a curved trim piece which delineates the broadcloth from the lower dark gray vinyl. Very tastefully done and all near perfection. A straight unmarred gun metal gray dash has plenty of chromed trimmed gauges in square and round format. The bottom of the dash cascades in a curve toward the floor, but before it gets there is housing the temp sliders, metal vertical ribbed and screened speaker and a shiny ash receptacle. A large metal door glovebox resides in front of the passenger side. Simply beautiful will best describe the original steering wheel and horn rim topping a big steering column with a clear plastic PRND gear selector indicator with red lettering. Sitting in front of the dash is a long contrasting tan broadcloth two tone bench with a darker tan checked pattern bolster and upper third, and ribbed lighter inserts. The rear bench takes on the same look, and on back of the front bench is an ashtray and some stainless steel grab bars for easy access and egress to the rear seat. Gray carpet that is very clean is on the floors, and above is a broadcloth headliner in a more small square check pattern which has some holes and a taped repair.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 241ci Hemi V8 with a single 2-barrel carburetor atop. On the back is the Gyro-torque 4-speed automatic. The engine bay is clean but has slight surface rust around the water pump area.
Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust on the framing and floor pans and rockers. The consigner states the car sat for a while and we can note a new fuel tank, lines pump and rebuilt carburetor to get rid of all the gum. New brake and brake linings are now in. Brakes are mechanical drums and suspension is independent coil springs for the front, and leaf springs for the back. New tires are on and are from this year.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter with little to no coaxing to do so. On the test track it was reported to have performed flawlessly in the acceleration, braking and handling departments. All functions were operational except for the radio.
A very nicely restored example with a beautiful paint job, refinished chrome trimmings and a 4 door version from the white hat boys in 1953 model year. Turn the key and enjoy.
