Description

1969 Ford Mustang Coupe

Once the name was selected, the horse logo in the Mustang grille took on many forms, including what resembled a knight on a chessboard. Ford designers had the Mustang galloping to the right, similar to the way horses race on a track, and also moving left. Ultimately, Lee Iacocca said, “the Mustang is a wild horse, not a domesticated racer,” and designer Gale Halderman felt the pony should always face left, the way designer Phil Clark first drew it.

For consignment, a 1969 Mustang which I will label the green meanie. It now sports a 351ci Cleveland V8 with Ford Performance cam and roller rockers among other upgrades for performance. Has excellent paint, a black vinyl top and a snazzy black vinyl interior. Go get em...giddy up!!

Exterior
For 1969 the design was getting more aggressive with deeper inset single headlights, a more rakish grille with running lights and a surrounding trimming, as well as a simple curved front bumper framing the lower valance. The hood is scooped, and the top is black vinyl to add a touch of class to this streetwise no slouch classic. On the back, the Mustang is still utilizing the trio of vertical taillights but now they are straightened out and just flat protrusions for the back panel. It has sequential turn signals. 15-inch US Mags wheels are wrapped in 215/65R15's in front and 265/60/R15's in back. Yupperz, it's a goer and a shower. Turnkey, spin tires.

Interior
A smooth black vinyl is molded to the doors and creates the armrest and houses the window crank and mirror joystick. A large wood appliqué panel is inset here as well and sports a centrally located prancing horse with red, white and blue stripes in its background. Inside nice black vinyl high back buckets with tootsie roll like headrests are fronting the original wood dash and Grant steering wheel. The chairs have tuck band roll inserts for the seating insert and for the backs, rectangular stitched panels are seen and also feature inertia seat belts. The rear 2 plus 2 seats are configured similarly, and even have the wood side panels. Within the dash are 4 deep set round gauges, and on the black padded dash top, is an aftermarket tachometer. Moving downward from the center of the dash just before the console is an AM/FM/CD digital radio and more aftermarket gauges in duo format. In the console is a Hurst shifter with a T handle, and some more wood appliqué with a padded glove box covering on the back near the rear seating.

Drivetrain
Under the hood it is akin to finding a pot of gold and its gleaming only this pot is a 351ci Cleveland V8. It has a Ford Performance cam, and roller rockers. On top is a Summit Racing 4-barrel carburetor, feeding the 8 candles through an Edelbrock intake. A 4-speed manual Toploader transmission is on back, and the rear axle is Ford 9-inch. Just fab with the blue wires, ribbed cast valve coverings and all chromed bolt ons abounding. The engine is so bright, I hafta wear shades...

Undercarriage
All newly painted and black, save for the orange engine lower portion and shiny Turbo muffler exhaust for the exhaling. In front, independent suspension with coil springs is on, and in back leaf springs with traction bars is seen. Power disc brakes are reserved for the front, and power drums four the rear. All the while power steering makes turning a breeze.

Drive-Ability
This car is very impressive on the performance end with unlimited acceleration, bias free panic stopping, and rail like handling. All functions were spot on for the functionality, and this car is definitely a head turner. That 351ci Cleveland is pumping up the volume!

A fine restoration and rebuild with enhancements and all-around good looks retained as to originality. Nice green and vinyl top combo adding some class to the in your face speed this car can obtain. A comfy interior in black tuck and roll and rectangular panels and some wood appliqué thrown in for extra feel goodness.
