351 CLEVELAND V8, 3 SPEED AUTO, PWR BRAKE/STEER, MARTI REPORT, RESTORATION PHOTOS, GREAT, PAINT WOW!
Released on September 30th, 1966 as a 1967 model, the first-generation Mercury Cougar was positioned as a more luxurious alternative to Ford's pony car. Indeed, the Cougar was essentially a Mustang under the skin, but it had a nicer interior, rode on a three-inch-longer wheelbase and came with more standard equipment. Its handsome, European-inspired sheet metal replete with hide-away headlights had minor updates year-to-year until first-gen Cougar production ended in 1970. This 1970 Mercury Cougar is an exceptional example in every way.
The current owner states that this Mercury's previous owner retained the car for over 45 years. During his stewardship, the car was carefully restored and lovingly maintained for his wife – a true labor of love.
Meticulously restored to a very high standard, this correctly painted Cougar is finished beautifully in White with a contrasting optional Medium Brown vinyl top. Complementing the arrow-straight body are gleaming chrome bumpers and sparklingly clean moldings and bright-work. This classic Cougar's handsome styling is enhanced with a set of premium Scott Drake ten-spoke 15-inch wheels most notably seen on Shelby Mustangs of the period. These classic wheels have been fitted with B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A white lettered tires giving some extra sportiness to this Cougar.
The interior is in superb condition and is trimmed in Medium Brown with wood-grain accents on the dash and door panels. Some of the desirable interior features include factory bucket seats, console with floor shifter, tilt steering column, air conditioning, as well as Pioneer AM/FM/cassette player and an additional temperature gauge discretely under the dash.
