390ci 320hp V8/Original Drivetrain/Red Respray/Nicely Restored
1967 Mustang GTA Convertible
In 1967, roughly 24,000 Mustangs had the GT option package, which consisted of grille-mounted fog lamps, dual exhausts with quad chrome tips, power front disc brakes, GT gas cap, handling package, and more. This 1967 Mustang GTA boasts the S-Code 390/320hp big block V-8 backed by an automatic transmission. A true rarity of a car to begin with then add in a copy of the window sticker and build sheet!
For consignment, a wonderfully restored GTA (GT-A for automatic transmission) complete with its 390ci V8 which is original to this car. All buttoned up looking much like a mild mannered everyday grocery getter. Once traded for a riding lawn mower, then restored, we now have a classic only made in 1967 and it's a convertible!
Exterior
Once Mist Beige has now been resprayed with a beautiful red which is miles deep and mostly rust free. Just a bit of rust with the door sills on the outside, next to the window tracks. Gaps are well minded, and within the hockey stick cove are some vents in the rear quarter. The front is iconic Mustang look has the added benefit of the fog lights just to the inside of the head lights. A GT gas cap is on as well as a white rocker panel stripe with nicely restored badging. Way back in for 1967, the taillights in 2 groups of threes now V inward instead of outward. Dual exhausts, and a white canvas power top with a glass rear window is looking snappy with the red paint. Standard wheel covers are on all 4 corners.
Interior
Inside parchment vinyl abounds with the door panels making good use of it along with some chromed surrounding trimmings, handles and door actuator. A toggle for the rear view outside mirror is also noted within this door panel. Nicely preserved and very clean low back buckets with tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters showing in parchment vinyl with black seat belts. A rear 2 plus 2 bench in the same pattern is also in. The dash is made up of two squared off eyebrow bump ups for the black dash top. The driver's side housing the round gauges, and the passenger side the glovebox. Fronting this dash is a white tilt steering wheel with original badge in the center. Below is a white metal panel which houses the radio (now digital but retro-fitted nicely). This all hovers and floats above and within black carpeting which is like new. A shout out to the white tonneau cover nicely hiding the top in the down position, and the trunk liner which is a plaid pattern and looking a lot like Jackie Stewart's hat, pants, and shirts!
Drivetrain
Under the hood is an all buttoned up blue painted block and intake manifold for this 390ci V8. Chromed valve covers and a chromed air cleaner cover complete with correct stickers can be seen. Not even a hint of any corrosion or rust, supple hoses and wiring and all within a clean black engine bay. On back is a Cruise-o-Matic automatic transmission (the A in the GTA designation) and bringing up the tail is a Ford 9" with a conventional 3.00 gearset. We note that the original Holley carburetor is included with the purchase.
Undercarriage
Gazing at the underside of this classic, we note some surface rust on the leaf springs and drum brake housings, but otherwise nicely restored and painted black for the solid floor pans, rockers and toe kicks. The torque boxes show some earlier repair but are now rust free and structurally sound. Disc brakes are upfront, and for the back are drums. Dual exhaust snakes its way back and expels spent combustion gasses thru a stock style muffler.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter and she rumbles nicely thru the stock style exhaust. On the track and our drive it shows some nice snappy acceleration, good handling and the GT equipment group all was working well.
A not oft seen example, and even rarer convertible 390ci with an automatic transmission. Nicely restored and now painted red with a good job in doing the painting. Direct from 1967 to the Classic Auto Malls Hallowed halls ripe for the picking, this car probably has your name on it, so come and get it! Did I hear someone say they needed a lawn mower?!
