Description

1982 Chevrolet El Camino

The El Camino was a direct challenge to Ford's Ranchero, a utility coupe dominating a previously untapped market. GM flirted with coupe-type trucks such as the Chevrolet Cameo Carrier and the GMC Suburban Carrier in 1955, but they went all-in with the El Camino for the 1959 model year. The El Camino was built on a modified Brookwood station wagon platform. The first generation didn't last long. It could have been the new flamboyant wings of full-sized Chevys or perhaps the Ranchero's hefty stake in the market, but after just 2 years and 36,409 El Caminos produced, Chevy dropped the ax on the model. After doing so, GM decided to bring it back in 1964 as version 2 which lasted until 1967.

Offering up this consignment, a 1982 Chevrolet El Camino with gobs of recent maintenance and replacement work on the drivetrain, some interior refresh workings she's all buttoned up and ready to move off our showroom and into your garage where you can ohhhh and ahhhh anytime you want and take it out so others can do the same.

Exterior
Two tone square and rectangle design steel bathed in charcoal gray and silver with just a hint of red pin striping on the beltline are seen throughout on this car. Overall quality of paint is very good with a few nicks and scratches but remaining nicely preserved. Nice stainless trimmings run around the wheel wells and throughout the center of the car providing the border between the light and dark grays (silver). The roofline is also silver, and this moves to the bed of the “car” where it has a black vinyl flip up and down covering. Some chromed tie down horizontal posts are on top off the bedsides, and under the framed flip up vinyl cover is a rubber lined bed, which is all clean and green. In back taillights are within the bumper which retains its luster. 14-inch rally wheels in black and highlighted by some bare machined metal edging, are wrapped by 225/70R14 radials with raised white lettering.

Interior
Virtually a near total redux with new weather seals for the doors, new door panels now showing in beautiful smooth dark gray with new molded door pulls in just a shade of darker vinyl, and a peppering of chromed handles and toggles. Inside more gray for the tuck and roll vinyl seats in low back bucket form compete with a central mounted fold down armrest. The dash is wood burl appliqué within a field of dark gray vinyl molded square and rectangle surrounds. All clean for the dash and its add ons like the AM/FM/Cassette and climate controls. New gray carpeting now floods the floors and a new headliner and visors have been recently installed.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a detailed and clean 305ci V8 that is original to this vehicle. It is topped with a single 4-barrel carburetor and on back is a TH350 3 speed automatic transmission. The axle is a 10-bolt designation. Some surface rust and slight patina are on this engine and bay but a list a mile long for recent work performed on the engine and its components is available for your perusal.

Undercarriage
A light coating of surface rust is seen on the frame and some of the usual suspension suspects, but unremarkable and structurally sound. Floor Pans are clear of any rust or repairs as are rockers. Independent coil springs for the front and a 4-link with more coil springs are the ride providers and for the braking power disc brakes for the front, and power drums for the rear. A dual exhaust is installed and has surface rust on the piping.

Drive-Ability
A quick starter and a good performer with the 4bbl carburetor pushing the 305 cubes to pump out some serious acceleration. Braking is solid as is shifting for the automatic trans. Handling was very good and again a list of recent maintenance performed includes a fair amount of work done on this undercarriage available for you to see upon request.

A nice early 80's El Camino with plenty of recent mechanical maintenance work performed, nice paint, and a new bed cover installed. Virtually a new interior will have you on the edge of the should I go now, or should I show now, fence!
