1971 Chevrolet Nova SS

For consignment and ripe for the picking here at Classic Auto Mall, this Dark Shadow Gray Metallic and black vinyl topped completely restored example is showing off as a very juicy morsel of Detroit metal and sculpting. And it's a true SS as everywhere I look in this place I see SS clones, and they are multiplying! With straight steel panels, nice chrome, beautiful interior and 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels we can have your gray eat it too! All ready to turn the key and go off into the sunset albeit somewhat fast! I think I'm having a religious experience with this “IT” year for the SS NOVA.

Exterior
From its single headlight on either side upfront, inwards raking blackened egg crate grille with centrally located SS badge, shiny trim surround and nice bumper below we are firmly planted in 1971 bowtie muscle. Straight Dark Shadow Gray Metallic painted steel minds its gaps. There is a slight “pleat” in the steel; it's all straight and true at this belt line for some extra body sculpting. Chromed window trimmings add a nice contrast to the Shadow Gray, as well as the excellent condition black vinyl top. For 71, smooth long nicely descending B pillars frame the rear glass, and seamlessly melt into the trunk deck making a nice edge on the tops of the rear quarters. A side view has great lines and bringing up the rear is a rounded back roll pan with wrap around bumper and rectangular tail lighting just above. On all 4 corners are 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels wrapped with F60-15 raised white letter rubber. This is an all period correct bowtie muscle that has received plenty of attention. One of the nicest I've seen in this classic laden pool.

Interior
A swing of the doors and black vinyl molded with some horizontal ribbing, chrome levers and cranks, and a horizontal badge in a thin strip of wood appliqué show up as straight as arrows on these door panels. Turning our attention to the interior, we see high back strato buckets with smooth black vinyl bolsters and black inserts which are looking nearly unused. These are in front and a nice black full vinyl bench in back all float in a nice calm clean sea of black carpeting. Above in front is an original configuration dash direct from GM. The only additions to the factory setup are a SunPro Super tach 2 on the column and a SunPro oil pressure gauge below the dash and radio. Speaking of which, it is all in and working great. In the middle of the buckets protruding from the black carpeted hump is a Hurst shifter with a white ball topper. Above is a nice tight black headliner, which presents as new. That's the way, UH HUH, UH HUH, I like it….

Drivetrain
Pop the hood and within the restored engine bay let's talk some numbers. How about the MATCHING kind, where 1W206484 V0302CJG territory out to Flint, Michigan with a March 2nd 1971 assembly date and showing as a 350ci, 270hp, 4bbl V8 with a manual transmission. A Holley is the 4-barrel, and the Muncie M20, also numbers matching, is from February 25th of 1971. On the back is a 12 bolt rear axle. Headers and a Flowmaster exhaust muffler system is on. Matching enough for ya? It's all over but the cryin'.

Undercarriage
Just all beautifully and painstakingly restored, shiny black and a chromed endplate for the pumpkin I can comb my hair while I'm giving this car a brake job. Shiny dual exhaust snakes its way rearward past independent coil spring front suspension, and leaf spring rear suspension. Power front discs and power rear drums say woah horsey! A very nice job if I must say so myself.

Drive-Ability
My partner in crime decoder and resident car expert, (why do you think I sound so knowledgeable??!), loves late 60's muscle so he took it for a spin and returned with just a smile on his face! He reported snappy acceleration, bias free panic stopping, good handling and all functions working just fab. ( Which is a feat in itself EVERYTHING HAS something wrong, but not this car…)

A juicy example of the Nova SS, now with all numbers matching drivetrain, snappy excellent black vinyl interior, Muncie shifter and a beautiful deep end of the pool exterior painted surfaces. Nearly as original and unmodified as one can get, if you are into turning a key and no wrenching required. I feel it in my bones this car ain't gonna last long. Ain't ain't a word cause my mother said it ain't.
