Description

1989 Ford Mustang GT Hatchback

For consignment, a very clean, well kept car that has a snazzy color combo, sweet 17-inch SVE wheels right, and plenty of power.  With a Lorenzo's built 347ci V8 we have one serious rip roaring hot rod, more at home on the track, but still capable on the street and definitely looking the part thanks the snappy spoiler, cowl induction hood and aerodynamic body cladding.  But before you ask, yes the car is street legal, however it is set up to not only imitate the look of a full blown race car, but it actually performs like one too.

Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.

Exterior
This specialized hatchback is painted in the fiery and fiesty hue of Mazda Soul Red Crystal and has straight steel panels which mind their gaps nicely.  A body matching integrated Cervini's Cobra style front bumper, side skirts which emulate brake cooling ducts, lightly tinted windows with black surrounds, and some lightly smoked rectangular headlights, are framed by an all business Cervinis 4-inch cowl induction hood.  Up top over the passengers is solid steel and gone are the cheese grater style taillights and now cleaner lightly smoked wraparound tail lights are just below the rear trunk deck and Cervini's Saleen style rear spoiler, and above another body matching Mustang GT rear bumper.  17-inch SVE Cobra Anniversary replica wheels are on all 4 corners, and up front wrapped by 245/45R17 tires, and one the rear 275/40R17 rear high performance rubber.

Interior
A swing of either well balanced door leads us into a full on Scarlet Red interior and is providing you straight line and even curved road enjoyment.  Factory Scarlet Red tweed articulated sport cloth bucket seats grab you and hold you with a firm snuggle and in the back a small bench provides room for 2 and is finished in more factory Scarlet Red tweed broadcloth.  New red carpet covers the flooring and floats not only the seats but the red and black plastic console with a small storage area/armrest, cup holders and an aftermarket Pro 5.0 shifter with a black ball on top for good looks. The steering wheel is a padded black 2 spoke design, and a factory instrument cluster has been fitted with the Florida 5.0 bezel and Holley 6.86 Pro-dash display and controller for the Holley Sniper X EFI system under the hood and floats just ahead.  The factory light and rear window defogger toggles remain on the sides, flanking the cluster.  Turning our attention to dash central we note the factory heater dials and a 417Fox radio relocation kit with a double din Pioneer AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth stereo and pair of vents hovering just above.  Looking upward allows us to see the clean and tight red felted headliner and a shout out to the trunk with its clean black carpeting and stainless steel battery box.

Drivetrain
Under that Cervini's hood, a 347ci stroker V8 engine built by Lorenzo's has all the fixings within including a DSS main girdle, steel Scat crank, JE 9.5-1 compression pistons and a Comp Cams camshaft.  It is adorned with Liberty cylinder heads that have been fitted with 1.6 ratio Harland Sharp roller rockers and a Weiand Street Warrior intake manifold.  A Paxton NOVI2000 supercharger is on along with an AEM Stealth in-tank fuel pump and -6 and -8 fuel lines.  From there the Holley Sniper X EFI system gets the air and fossils into the mill and a Hyperspark ignition system and distributor lights the fire within.  This who's who of racing names combination has produced 514hp on the dyno, but we do not have a dyno sheet to prove this.  On the back is a Tremec World Class T5 5-speed manual transmission with a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch and UPR quadrant and adjuster.  Making the connection from the transmission to the rear axle is a Ford Racing aluminum driveshaft with the requisite driveshaft loop which sends power to the UPR aluminum differential cover equipped Ford 8.8" rear axle with spherical bushings, 3.73 Ford Motorsport gears and an Auburn TruTrac differential to turn the rear tires.  A SVE 130 amp alternator is on along with all new wirings, Prothane motor mounts, and a Moroso 7 quart oil pan.

Undercarriage
A 4 link with coil springs and UPR fully adjustable control arm rear suspension helps keep all that power hooked to the pavement.  Up front is a D&D tubular K-member independent coil over suspension with D&D lower control arms, Tokico shocks and a UPR coil over kit.  We note welded in subframe connectors have been installed to keep the chassis extra rigid and a Flaming River manual steering rack and bumpsteer kit keeps your rolling straight down the track.  A new master cylinder actuates the Cobra spindle swap power disc brakes up front and more power discs are on the rear to bring this horse to a whoah.  BBK long tube headers are on for the exhale with a VRS catless X-pipe and Mac mufflers that end just in front of the rear axle of the car.

Drive-Ability
It fired up with a thunderous roar, and our test driver who doubles as my sidekick decoder took her for a spin, and spin it did, especially for the rear tires.  He said launching was awesome, and of course did not get close to any top speed, but it is reported it goes like hell.  All lighting is still functional were working, but the air conditioning has been removed so clearly it won't be blowing cold.

Take a Fox body and spend a small fortune on it to make it go straight, and you now have a super 'Stang, a Muscle Mustang, and a powerful pony.  But this isn't a one trick pony, lord no....this one can handle the curves as well.  An excellent build with super quality parts, and all for 1 purpose to smoke the competition.
