1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Coupe
The Chevy Chevelle is a vehicle we hold near and dear to our hearts. It's an iconic muscle car that led the pack during its time. If you love the Chevelle as much as we do, you'll probably be interested in these fun Chevelle facts: 1. The Chevelle was built in 10 different plants in two countries during its 10 year run. 2. Surprisingly, the Chevelle shared a platform with both the Monte Carlo and the El Camino. 3. There was a version of the Chevelle only available in Canada that had a slightly different grille and trim. It was called the Pontiac Beaumont. 4. The Chevelle was the intended successor of the Tri-Five but ended up carving out its own place in Chevy history.
For consignment, a 1969 Version of the Chevrolet Chevelle SS with a 396ci V8, 4-Speed Muncie with a Hurst shifter, 12-bolt rear with 3.31 gears, F41 suspension, and plenty of work to existing and even replacing some body panels to have it all looking great here at Classic Auto Mall.
Exterior
The beneficiary of a full restoration completed a year and half ago, this car now sports new GM quarter panels, new front fenders and inner fender wells. Then a nice shot of red respray had been applied carefully to these new or restored panels. On top of the spray are all new trimmings for the wheel well surrounds, front grille, windows which are now tinted, and lighting as well as badging. A black decal that emulates a trim spear runs the entire length of the sides and looking at it you'll also notice nicely minded gaps in all the totally rust free steel. The rear glass has a beautiful almost fastback styling to it, and both bumpers are near showroom condition. The paint is actually 7 years old, but looks a lot like new, very deep and very smooth. Up front 15-inch Billet Specialties wheels are on, and on back 17-inch Billet Specialties shiny wheels to match the front.
Interior
Plenty of work has been done in here as well with a tilt wheel fronting a rally gauge dash sporting a tachometer that redlines at 5500 RPM, an indicator this car may be a true SS. Instruments are clean and neatly preserved within a black dash front. A/C is within this interior realms, however it is not hooked up. A newer AM/FM radio is neatly installed, as is the headliner in black and new carpeting. As for the seating arrangement, nicely curved semi high back buckets with a headrest all in black vinyl, as well as a rear bench is seen in the same patterning back. The consignor states a new center console has been put in, and a Hurst shifter rises proudly from the center of it. Round Astro Ventilation vents pepper the dash, and the top is padded black shiny vinyl totally un-marred. Below flooding the floors is a black carping which remains like new and very clean.
Drivetrain
Now appearing under the hood is a 396ci V8 L35 which is not original to this car and is circa 1966. It has the correct red/orange block paint, shiny chrome valve covers, and a single 4-barrel carburetor on top. A 4-speed manual transmission in Muncie form is on back and power gets pushed rearward to a CCF stamped 12-bolt 3.31 post-traction rear circa 1970-1972. Ceramic Hooker Headers allow this mill to breathe easier, along with the Pypes 2-1/2-inch exhaust.
Undercarriage
Just a great job on the restoration of the undercarriage, straight rust free black painted steel frame, floorpans, and suspension which is noted as F41. Brakes are power disc for the front and power drums for the rear. Also, all new suspension components are now on.
Drive-Ability
A smile on my muscle car partner in crime aficionado's face says it all after his test drive. “He Likes It!...Hey Mikey…He reported a quick fire up, good handling, solid braking, and awe inspiring acceleration. It was like being in an all new 1969 car, as nearly everything has been either restored or replaced.
If you are in the market for a nice Chevelle SS from this Muscle era, then this is certainly a turn key adventure for you. All the work has been meticulously performed and get in and go. It's that easy, and you'll be looking great to boot!
