Description

1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Fast forward to 1972 and we give you this consignment, benefiting from a prior restoration and with a numbers matching Cleveland engine, we give you this fine 85,142 title verified actual mile Mach 1.  Some minor modifications were performed along the way in the form of a well done 4 wheel power disc brake conversion, and donning its original Bright Red color in a respray form along with a snappy restored black interior, this big pony draws your attention with ease.  If the looks aren't enough to get you hooked then dig deeper into the car's history plus a deluxe Marti report and we are ready to make a sonic boom with this Mach 1.

Note: This vehicle is sold with a Pennsylvania reconstructed branding on the title

Exterior
Draped in its eye-catching Bright Red respray with clear coat then add in some black graphics on the NACA ram air hood and some side striping and we are looking fast.  Also, we can add some more black in the badges, which are decals, and a rocker stripe in black for good measure..  A few frowns are found in the form of some front Spoiler-Bumper damage in spider crack form and some inclusions in the paint, as well as some dry spots in the finish, none of which is noticeable from 15 feet away.   A rakish rear deck glass angles its way downward gracefully all the way back to the rear spoiler and underneath the spoiler we see the triple brake lights residing in a blacked-out panel and bordered by another stripe above and a clean bumper below.  15-inch polished and chromed Magnum 500 wheels are on all four corners wrapped by staggered width BF Goodrich raised white letter radials.  The 1972 front grille is one of the most menacing of all the Mustangs and has been emulated even in newer versions of this moniker with the deep-set honeycomb motif.  Lastly, worth noting this year we lost the hockey stick cove on the side panels and doors.

Interior
Turning our attention to the interior, correct high back black standard vinyl buckets with black accenting and piping stitched in are in front, and a sport deck 2 plus 2 seat is in the rear.  The original dash, in the factory black color with its deep round dual gauges, displays the factory tachometer on the left and speedometer on the right.  In the dash center there is another trio of gauges surrounded by a black bezel and below in a field of black is an aftermarket AM/FM stereo, AC and heat temp control levers, and a clock.  In the center console we note the black T-handled chrome armed shifter and a deep storage compartment that doubles as an armrest for the front passengers.  The carpeting is deep dark black and clean, and above we see a black headliner that is hanging tightly.  A shout out to the trunk with its tan and black plaid mat and black steel sides.

Drivetrain
A 351ci Cleveland V8, the correct and numbers matching engine is installed in the well kept and patina finished engine bay.  This beautiful blue mill also has a cast iron intake manifold and a 4-barrel carburetor lurking under the polished and Ford Blue single snout air cleaner assembly.  Strapped to the back is a correct C6 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power rearward to a Ford 9-inch pumpkin with a 3.25 conventional gearset.  Helping you reach Mach speed is the factory equipped NACA hood assembly but sans the Ram Air underpinnings.  Some M/T ribbed and polished valve covers are on for the dress up and we note a newer master cylinder and newer AC lines.

Undercarriage
Overall very solid and showing with the factory applied rustproofing and undercoating.  The suspension shows slight surface rust, the floor pans are nice, and rockers have no rust.  Headers and on and feed to the dual Flowmaster muffler equipped exhaust as it makes its way rearward from the Cleveland.  Up front the ride and stopping is provided by an independent coil spring arrangement with power disc brakes and in the rear we see leaf springs suspension and more power discs.  All presenting very nice down below with the exception of some questionable repairs at the base of the shock tower, (see photos for reference).

Drive-Ability
While visually complete we found out that an extended warm up time is necessary before heading out to the track.  Once up to temp this car drove well with nice acceleration, albeit with some noticeable hesitation, handled well for a car of its size and exhibited stop on a dime and give change braking thanks to the power actuated 4 wheel discs.

Nicely restored and save for a few minor flaws in the exterior and some mechanical gremlins under the hood, but otherwise we have a nice example of the snarly Mach 1!  A numbers matching 351ci Cleveland V8,  and that go fast NACA hood, all you need to do now is “pony” up the dough and you can drive it right out of here...BOOM!
