426 STREET WEDGE, 4-SPD MANUAL, RED ON RED, SUPER CLEAN, TURN-KEY CLASSIC!
The Plymouth Fury nameplate first came to be in the mid-1950s as an all-new model. An excellent name choice for a car that was styled somewhat aggressively throughout all generations, these days it may ring a bell thanks to Stephen King's popular novel Christine, in which a sentient 1958 Plymouth Fury is a main character. The Fury name carried into the 1960s, and was quickly enveloped in the beginnings of the muscle car era.
While this 1964 Sport Fury may not be a dead ringer for Christine, it sure does have an aggressive look! Plus, the colors are right. The exterior is finished in a gorgeous bright red, broken up only by the trim molding down the sides which serve to help that red paint pop! Largely returned to factory condition when restored, the only clear hint that this car may be hiding some horsepower is the tasteful set of American Racing wheels. Otherwise, the exterior appearance has been kept rather tame, which is what gives it the charm it has. This car isn't alive, but it sure does have something sinister under the hood!
Pop the hood and you'll realize it isn't your standard big block Mopar. That's right; this Sport Fury is hiding what is believed to be the original 426 Street Wedge V8! For those unfamiliar, this is not the same as the 426 Hemi engine and is most similar in appearance to the 383 or 440 Chrysler V8. The little brother to the max wedge motors, this stout 426 left the factory with a single 4-bbl and was rated at 365hp from factory! Top it off with a 4-speed manual transmission, and this little red Plymouth is a blast to drive. While it may look somewhat unassuming to the untrained eye, this Fury can lay some rubber!
The interior is beautifully finished in what may be the only appropriate color combination with the red exterior: red and white. It has been beautifully done, and the color combination is simply the best choice for this car. All items appear to have either been refinished or replaced, and overall the interior is in great condition. Pop open the glove box and you'll see an aftermarket radio has been installed, although we doubt you'll ever use it as the engine provides all the tunes you really need.
There's simply nothing like grabbing gears in an overpowered old Mopar! If you're looking for some turn-key weekend muscle, this gorgeous red 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury is sure to deliver. Don't let her slip away!
