Camaro Coupe

Description

1971 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe

For consignment, A 1971 version second generation V nosed Camaro.  This car comes with plenty of upgrades on the circa 1971 period correct but not numbers matching 396ci V8.  Traction bars, a rebuilt Muncie M20 trans, electric fanm and new wiring through and a HEI distributor.  I'm running hot for this striped version of the Camaro.

Exterior
Bathed in dark blue paint over all factory panels for this morsel of low hanging fruit that remains extra juicy.  Overfall paint looks to be good with just a few minor inclusions here and there.  Chrome is all shiny and like new.  Badging is all correct and simply done but still effective.  You cannot miss the painted on wide dual stripes in white for the hood and rear deck to include the rear spoiler.  The exterior gaps are good, and the panels remain straight.  Starting up front with an egg crate V front grille, single headlights and round inset parking/signal lighting tucked next to that grille. The split front bumper has a spoiler just below.  Starting in 1970, began the years when GM began to change the design of the Camaro, and blurred the lines between a Camaro and a Pontiac, give a gaze to the front of the car and it will pan out!  Not a true “beak” but certainly features that resemble each other.  Nice window trimmings frame the front and rear glass and a thin strip of stainless highlights the base of the door windows.  The back of the car lowers in a gentle slope and ends by dropping off to the rear of the car but not before going up and down around the rear spoiler.   Bringing up the rear of the car are dual round tail lights and a solid bumper with a dip in the center to frame the bottom of the license plate.   15-inch steel rally wheels with factory center covers and deep dish trim rings are wrapped in Falken radials all from 2021.   No runs, no drips, or errors on this beauty, just pure 1971 racy.

Interior
A swing of the doors is akin to a small time travel jaunt allowing us to breathe in the originality.  The black textured dash somewhat wraps around the driver with a background surround of round sunken in gauges which are immaculate and a padded black dash top frames the top.  Moving to the center we note the factory AMFM radio and ash receptacle next to the steering wheel.  For the passenger, an under the dash glove box with a shiny Camaro script badge is seen.  In the center, between 2 high back Strato buckets covered in black vinyl we see the center console. This houses the Hurst shifter and a lidded glovebox.  A rear bench resides just behind the end of the console, is pristine and occupies the back of the interior allowing extra guests to experience the thrill ride.  A tight black headliner is above and a shout to the trunk with its factory square green and black checked tweed vinyl liner.

Drivetrain
Under the hood stuffed within the engine bay is a nearly perfectly painted GM orange/red block and valve covered 396ci V8.  This is an era correct block and the numbers pan it out to be a 1971 version.  It has a mild performance cam inserted within its confines and has roller rockers on the cylinder heads.  An Edelbrock 4-barrel carb is on top to feed this mill, and a rebuilt 4-speed Muncie M20 is on the back with numbers showing it is from 1966-67.  There is a new 11-inch clutch helping to transfer power and a 12 bolt posi 4.10 gear rear axle is in charge of frying the rear tires.  All is super clean and very well detailed in this engine bay with a new water pump and thermostatically controlled fans.

Undercarriage
Like the top end of the car, all very clean rust proofed or painted black and rust free.  A new fuel tank is in and we see independent coil springs for the front, and for the rear leaf springs with added traction bars are on, (all new shocks are here too).  Power front disc brakes for this one, and  power rear drums slow it for the woah.  Breathe deep, now exhale through headers and 2-1/2 inch stainless steel exhaust.    Woosh…hold on to the Jesus bar.

Drive-Ability
Yes! Yes! Yes!  It definitely drives, it certainly starts, and it offers up plenty of neck snapping acceleration when I get goosey with my boot.  Climbing in is quite easy, even for this 64 year young writer, and once in it is comfortable and all is working well.  Definitely an E-ticket ride for this one with nearly no rattles, and all functions operational.  I did hear a slight tire rub on the left front fender when turning right.

So here we have the newly re-designed generation 2 version with the V grille and split bumper design.  On its way up in value, and becoming more desirable for the Camaro collectors.  When someone asks what does Camaro mean, just answer it's a car that eats Mustangs!
