REAL BOSS, #S MATCHING DRIVETRAIN, 11 FACTORY OPTIONS, PS, TILT, BUILD SHEET!
With its historic racing pedigree, low production and high-performance street persona, the iconic Boss 302 Mustang ranks among today's most highly sought-after collector cars. Finding a non-molested, original example today can be extremely tough. However this gorgeous 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 is a perfect example to why these cars were so desirable. An original matching-numbers drivetrain, unique exterior color and original documents only further enhance the appeal of this classic.
Following the SCCA's homologation rules for legalizing the special engine and other equipment for Trans Am racing, Ford built only 7,014 Boss 302s for 1970. Of those, just 318 left the factory with this paint and trim package according to the Marti Report. Showing just over 76,000 miles, the mileage could very well be original based on the overall originality seen on this car. Originally this Boss left the factory with 11 option codes totaling over $600 in options from the factory. The list includes - Rear deck spoiler, traction-lok differential, sport slats, sport deck rear seat, power steering, tilt steering wheel, AM radio, Decor group, tinted glass - complete, deluxe belts/warning light, tachometer and trip odometer.
The car saw a frame up restoration in 2010 where the only thing they didn't touch was the interior. It was in such good shape that the owner at the time opted not to touch it. Approximately 2 years ago the current owner decided to replace the carpet and to his surprise found the original build sheet (included in the sale) under the carpet. As far as we can tell, the car appears to feature all the original panels short of a real FoMoCo shaker hood that was added somewhere along the way.
Pop open the hood and you'll find the matching-numbers Boss 302 engine still at home in the engine bay. You'll immediately see the level to which it was restored thanks to all the correct markings, tower clamps and a load of original equipment. The only thing that we know for certain isn't original is the petronix distributor and coil to ensure easy startups - The original coil and distributor are included in the sale. The engine fires up easily and is a testament to how powerful these cars were from factory.
Take a glance under the car and you'll find all the original floors wearing a fresh coat of red oxide primer. The underside has been detailed out a lot like the engine bay to feature all the correct markings throughout. The original exhaust was replaced at some point over the years with a set of flowmaster mufflers that really let that BOSS 302 breathe.
As a Trans-Am pony car, the Boss 302 came from the factory with Ford's best high-performance equipment, including the 290 HP solid-lifter small-block with Cleveland-style cylinder heads, Hurst shifter with T-handle, Competition Suspension and front spoiler. Well-known Ford Designer Larry Shinoda created the graphics package consisting of blackout for the trunk lid and rear panel, black centered hood stripe and elaborate stripe decals that started at the front of the hood and swept back along the side to the rear bumper.
It's not too often you find cars with this much originality still intact. If you are looking for a "real deal" type of muscle car to add to a collection or to simply finally own and drive your dream muscle car, it's hard not to take a close look at this Boss 302 Mustang. Call today!
