GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1968 Plymouth Barracuda convertible. The second generation Barracuda was what the originals should have been right from the start, three years earlier. The Plymouth Barracuda is a two-door car that was manufactured by Plymouth from the 1964 to 1974 model years. The second-generation 1967 to 1969 Barracuda, though still Valiant-based, was heavily redesigned. Second-generation A-body cars were available in fastback, notchback, and convertible versions.
The current owner has owned the car since 1999 and the previous owners has it in their garage for 19 years before that. When the current owner purchased the car, it had a 273 Commando with a 4 barrel in it with drum brakes all around and at the time it had the original Formula S hood and badging. The 383 is period correct and came out of a Road Runner. The rear end is a “Corporate” 9 ¼ slightly narrowed by Moser Axle with C clip eliminated bearing conversion and 3.90:1 gear, Auburn locker with rear disc brakes. The 727 Torque Flite transmission has a street performance build and the torque converter has a slight stall. The 'cuda also has front disc brakes from a B-body conversion kit for the A-body mopar through Bouchillon Performance and sub frame connectors added for Torque rigidity and Cal Trac's. It also has tubular upper control arms from Jamison Fabrication. The interior is custom and in excellent condition along with the top and boot.
The engine was machined and balanced by Steve Tagget in Kalamazoo approx. 5,200 miles ago The internals consist of Keith Black Hypereutectic 1.5:1 pistons that is .060 over with penned rods. It has a Comp Cams high energy grind that mimics the old “purple shaft .501 “grind, hardened seats in 906J heads slightly messaged, Offenhauser 2/4 barrel manifold with 390 Holley carbs jetted for the engine, 7 quart oil pan with Royal Purple synthetic oil, Factory ram manifolds with dual exhaust and electric cut outs. Car rides on Cragar wheels, it also has a 6 pack hood with scoop.
