For 1973, Valiants continued to be marked in three forms including Duster two-door coupes. New front and rear end treatments on all models gave the cars a fresh appearance. Interiors were considerably upgraded. Major improvements included an optional fold-down rear seat on the Duster; optional electrically heated window defogger; the inclusion of front and rear bumper guards and standard equipment; ventless side glass on Valiant Group Hardtops; standard disc brakes on V-8 models and an improved, quieter ride on all. New low-back style seats were standard in Scamp and an option for Dusters and Valiants. With the above changes, the standard equipment distinctions were the same as in 1972. A new grillw made the styling of the 1973 Valient different than the previous year. It had single headlamps housed in square shaped bezels at each end. Next to the headlamps were three oblong openings, (with vertical segmentation), which housed the rectangular parking lamps. Below the nose of the car were three more, larger oblong openings which 'Veed' from the centerline and also had vertical segmentations. Above them was placed a chrome header bearing the word Plymouth in stamped, block letters. A Valient script remained on the sides of the cowl. The Duster also had the same new grille and front safety bumper (with rubber-face guards flanking the license plate recess). Large, one-lens taillamps replaced the former slat type. The Duster 340 had wide tape stripe running the full length og the car along the beltline and bold '340' on the rear fender edge. The Scamp was changed at the front by addition of the ne Valiant style grille. The only rear end alteration was a pair of more massive, rubber faced bumper guards. The Scamp's ventless glass emphasized its hardtop look. The Duster '340' came standard with the 340 cubic inch V-8.
