True P10 Buck Tag GT/289ci V8 4 BBL/Pony Interior/Rally Pack
1965 Ford Mustang GT Fastback
In its most basic definition, GT stands for Gran Touring or Gran Turismo. The term Tourismo is derived from Italian roots, meaning an automobile that is able to travel at a high rate of speed for a long distance in both comfort and style.
For consignment with a complete interesting history of ownership, with our last owner putting in all the work to bring the car back to its original P10 (real GT meaning gran turismo) body buck tag. A few of the 65 highlights which are seen on this car are disc brakes, dual exhaust with trumpets, a heavy-duty sway bar, and a pony interior. Also, obvious but beautiful is the fastback with its “vented” B pillar.
Exterior
This car has it all with the fastback styling, vented B pillar, triple rocker striping, hockey stick door and rear quarter cove, and styled steel wheels on all 4 corners. All this straight steel is draped in Ivy Green, and it is looking very good. All chrome on the bumpers is good, as is correct badging and decals. A look from the rear reveals the iconic triple vertical cluster of taillights, trumpet exhaust, and a large curved rear greenhouse glass. The front of the car features the usual galloping pony grille fronting, but also adds dual fog lights to the grille giving the car a slightly menacing look.
Interior
Take the original Mustang interior and pump it up with the embossed pony interior to make it really special. Very clean looking buckets upfront, and a 2 plus 2 rear bench. A center console races from front to rear and has great 60's styling. The GT dash with its wood appliqué background, center mounted circular speedo, round side gauges, and a GT 6000 RPM rally pack factory tachometer and clock flanking and mounted on the column. In the center is the original radio, and on the passenger's side is a wood appliqué glovebox. Black carpet floods the floors and is very clean as well as the square patterned tight felt headliner. A shout to the original looking nicely finished correct plaid covered trunk and original looking spare.
Drivetrain
An original to this car 289ci V8 topped with an Autolite 4-BBL carburetor and has a 4-speed Toploader attached to the back go of it. All dressed up in shiny black it has chromed valve covers and air cleaner holder. Looks very much like new in here.
Undercarriage
All extremely clean and virtually no road dirt, let alone rust under here! We can see the quick ratio steering, disc brakes upfront, HD sway bar, and a shiny dual exhaust snaking its way to the trumpeted rear chromed tips.
Drive-Ability
Like I was a kid all over again as my parents had a 1964-1/2 version, and I used to stand on the hump as we jetted down the road. Sitting in it brought back memories, and it performed great, handled the test track swimmingly, and has some sweet acceleration! It earns its name only its also fast forward…
A true P10 body buck tag GT with all the dealer fixings and trimmings, and all very nicely done. It is a very original looking great restoration car with all original fender panels, and the tie downs from the dealership still on the car.
