Description

1965 Ford Mustang Coupe

Mustang, Mustang, Mustang! to quote the television advertising in 1965. All the while urging to walk on your wild side, and your personality will go from dull to a thriller when you get behind the wheel of a 1965 Ford Mustang!

For consignment a mostly original and a light-handed tasteful modification to improve on the original. A 1965 289ci V8 C-code car, is here for the taking. 124,000 original miles…a New Mexico car came to the east coast 26 years ago and sat on blocks in a heated garage. Then the engine was rebuilt and here we are a mere 4,000 miles later, back up on the block, if you will!

Exterior
Sporting its original side and rear window trim and glass, and original grille, it is truly snazzy. The beautifully applied Ford red paint presents very nicely, with just a few minor faults definitely unremarkable. Dual wide gray painted on stripes run from stem to stern and draw attention to the straight steel of the exterior of this car. A new FoMoCo tinted windshield has been installed as well as new front and rear bumpers. Matte gray (to go with the stripes) 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels with flat center caps are wrapped in new radial tires.

Interior
Looking inside we are met with original door panels covered in pristine red vinyl tuck and roll. Buckets up front and a rear bench are keenly preserved with no marks or tears. A red center console has been added, and a Hurst shifter can be seen on the hump. There is a newly installed dash pad, package pad, and it sports a Dakota Digital dash. Cruise control and Vintage air which blows cold is now added. New red carpet floods the floors, and a nice tight headliner is above.

Drivetrain
A beautiful blinged out 289ci V8 which has been bored over .30 has flat top pistons installed. Also, inside is a 268H hydraulic flat tappet Comp Cam. There are Comp Cam magnum roller rocker arms and a high energy pushrod kit. Edelbrock aluminum heads and an Edelbrock performer 4-barrel intake manifold is topped with a Holley carburetor. Also new for the rebuilt engine are HD oil pump, starter, coil voltage regulator, alternator, and a period correct new battery. Keeping all this performance cool is a 4-row aluminum radiator, water pump and overflow tank. A rebuilt top loader 4-speed manual transmission is bolted to the back and it is actuated by a 10.5 inch flywheel and clutch assembly. Out back is a new 8" 3.55 posi rear.

Undercarriage
All good under here with no rust, a completely rebuilt front suspension and steering with new front shocks. Not to be outdone, the rear sports new coil overs and shocks and new leaf springs and traction bars. Front disc brakes are recent and the rear drums were rebuilt with pads, hardware, bearings, etc. Bringing up the rear is a new gas tank.

Drive-Ability
This candle lit right up, running on all 8 cylinders, and gave us a real ride. No bucking bronco here very smooth with all the new undercarriage components, and the dash is a real nice improvement. Oh and did I mention its fast too!

Keeping its original exterior, and most of the interior, this consigner did a fab job on the add ons. Visually its stunning, and speaking from the seat of my pants, it's powerful! The gray stripes and the matching Torque Thrusts bring it right down to earth in a heavenly way. All original cars are cool, but this slightly tweaked in design and performance is definitely the way to go with a 1965 C-code pony.
