Grotto Blue Respray/Fuel Injected 327ci V8/Blue Original Interior
1968 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe
The Camaro, manufactured by Chevrolet, was hardly a new idea; more like a hurried attempt to keep up with the recently launched/remarkably successful Ford Mustang. It started as a pony car, but later introduced muscle car versions in the market. Launched on September 29, 1966, the Camaro comes in five distinct generations, with the last one being introduced on March 16, 2009.
For consignment a tricked-out Camaro with some extra goodies just for giggles, all dressed in Grotto Blue, a fiberglass stinger hood, and Corvette rally wheels, and let's go racing!
Exterior
Steel panels are fairly straight on this car, although they have been invaded by bubbling rust on the rear quarters, rockers below the doors, and a few chips and dents on the roof. The front bumper has been removed, a rear spoiler complete with black stripe which begins on the fiberglass stinger hood, and works its way back to the trunk lid and spoiler. The front clip is slightly off color and could have been replaced. Corvette rally wheels are on all 4 corners.
Interior
Mostly original materials for the interior, blue vinyl buckets in front and a rear bench. The center console has storage, and the space age dual vertical and single horizontal bar for the gear shifter. Original dash in clean condition, with deep inset circular gauges one being a tachometer and the other a clock, spherical AC vents and levers. A cluster of additional gauges is noted within the console. All blue and chrome, even the carpet with a few marks on the floor is blue.
Drivetrain
A newer (circa 1969) 327ci V8 is now sitting in the engine bay which is looking good with its orange painted block, and chromed valve covers and air cleaner. Headers and a Flowmaster dual exhaust make some nice noise. Holley Pro-Jection fuel injection feeds this nice mill, and a high power Petronix electronic ignition ignites it. A 3-speed turbo 400 automatic transmission is on back and pushes power rearward to a 10-bolt rear.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust exists and invasive rust is starting on the frame and other parts, but the car remains fairly structurally sound. The rust that is causing the bubbling on the exterior persists on the inside of the rockers. Floor pans are clean and rust free. Power disc brakes have been put on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
This car started right up and ran like a deer. It has nice power, a great sound, and handled well on our test course. The original seats are still comfortable, and overall it is a good experience to drive.
Save for some rust invading the lower panels and unibody structure, this car is nicely buttoned up and will be a fun driver for someone. Vintage air that blows cold, 4-wheel disc brakes, and a 1969 327ci V8, and now you are good to go! Release the horses!
