RS Option Car 327ci V8 4 BBL Carb Red Interior Parchment Convertible
1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertible
The first-generation Chevrolet Camaro appeared in Chevrolet dealerships in September 1966 for the 1967 model year. Based on a brand-new rear-wheel drive GM F-body platform and was available as a 2-door, 2+2 seat, hardtop (no "B" or center pillar) or convertible, with the choice of either a straight-six or V8 engine. The first-generation Camaro was built through the 1969 model year.
The RS was an appearance package that included hidden headlights, revised taillights with back-up lights under the rear bumper, RS badging, and exterior bright trim. This example has been completely restored, and with the RS package shows very nicely, and goes pretty good too.
Exterior
Repainted red is the sole new addition to this otherwise original badging, brightwork, bumpers, and top. A cream parchment (rare option) top is in good condition. RS option hidden headlights are functioning, as well as all exterior lighting. Stock Chevrolet Motor Company wheel trim and hubcaps are framed by Goodrich radial T/A's. The RS gas cap is planted firmly in the center of the rear panel and the correct horizontal wrap around the grille stripe is present. Noted, is that the top frame may need adjustment as it does not sit completely level where the windows roll up.
Interior
Red stitched vinyl bucket seats with black highlighting, in good condition in front, save for a tear that has been taped on the passenger bucket bolster. Also, a matching motif bench seat in the rear make up the seating arrangement. A center console shows an automatic shift handle that is designed right out of the 60's. (Looks like George Jetson would have used a similar one to control his flying car!). Airflow and temperature for the interior are controlled by horizontal levers in the middle of the dash. Deep round angled analog gauges create the gauge cluster in front of the original RS steering wheel. Red carpet in fair to good condition showing some staining covers the floors.
Drivetrain
A date code correct 327ci V8 drinks from a 4-barrel carburetor and drives a replacement 3-speed TH350 automatic transmission. An Edelbrock intake and carburetor setup sits up top and all this throws power to the 10-bolt rear.
Undercarriage
Underside is original and no rust is present. Power front disc brakes, rear power drums, and a dual exhaust system are seen all in good condition.
Drive-Ability
A good driver, quick starter, smooth shifter, and some good grabby brakes. The car rode smoothly, and the interior was spacious. It's great to be able to put a top down on a nice day and go for a spin so I can write about these fascinating cars!
A generation 1 first year pony car, completely restored, with an RS option package, as well as some great factory options. All surfaces interior and exterior are good to go, and in good working condition. Noteworthy is that the original Powerglide, cylinder heads and 4 bbl carburetor are included. A check back in time reveals that all advertising money went into the SS. Hence a beautiful option...the RS…was somewhat ignored, creating a lesser seen Camaro but seen right here at Classic Auto Mall.
