305ci V8/4 Barrel Carb Choo Choo Custom Body Air Bagged Suspension
1985 Chevrolet El Camino Super Sport
Back in the 1950's a woman from an Australian Farm requested a car that she could go to church on Sunday, and haul pigs on Monday. The Idea was hatched for a new kind of transportation, that being the multi-use vehicle. GM's version was the El Camino aptly named after the Spanish “The Way”.
Seen here is a great example of a 1985 El Camino with a Choo Choo Customs SS Body Kit added, air ride suspension, and a solid fiberglass tonneau cover for the bed. Interior we note a 60/40 bench seat, and a Grant wood Steering wheel. Read on and we will show you “The Way”.
Exterior
Looking pretty much as it did in 1985 draped in Gold Metallic, and save for the Choo Choo Customs body work added, and some nifty bagging to be able to go low and slow or jack it up a bit for some performance. Paint is good, with the Gold covering virtually surface save for brite work trim running the length of the car at the belt line. A large dent is seen on the passenger's side up front on the soft bumper, and several areas of scratches and nicks from dragging on a curb are noted around the lower cowlings and rockers. The rear bumper hangs below the tailgate and has blue dot tail lighting. A flip of the fiberglass tonneau cover reveals a nice bed covered with carpet all in very good condition. Mildly honeycombed mag wheels with deep dish trim rings are seen on all 4 corners.
Interior
A swing of the doors and we are met with 1980's square design and color scheme heaven! Very clean door panels wrapped in tan vinyl have nice preserved panels, and power lock switches but still go with the crank windows. The 60/40 split bench is covered in a yellow tweed cloth and has tan vinyl bolsters. Gold carpet in fair condition showing some dirt and scuffs, floods the floors and has snazzy black rubber floor mats with yellow highlighting and El Camino stitching. Has a mahogany Grant wood 3 spoked steering wheel, and an additional few aftermarket gauges hanging below it and the steering column. A tight headliner is seen above all this yellow and tan glory.
Drivetrain
Pop the hood and we are greeted by an unrestored original engine bay, showing some slight corrosion, little rust here and there, but all fully operational. A 305ci V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor, puts power back to a 10 bolt rear running through a TH350 automatic transmission.
Undercarriage
Surface rust not atypical for a car of this era, is seen on the frame and various untreated metal parts. The air ride system can be noted, with independent front suspension, and 4 link rear suspension, as well as power disc brakes in front and power drums on the rear.
The mid 1980's had cars loaded with extra bodywork, as there was this fascination which may have emanated from the NASCAR designs of the times. This EL Camino's embellishments are on steroids with the Nashville based Choo Choo Customs SS Exterior. A bagged suspension is interesting, as is the color way for the interior. Pure mid 80's stylin'.
