68.521 Miles/Known History/Iconic 5.0 Liter V8/T5 Manual/Original Clean Interior
Welcome to 1985, and this consignment in the form of a 65,281 title verified mile 1985 Foxbody Mustang GT hatchback. The consigner states that this was bought new in late '84 in Long Island, NY then moved to Chicago and finally coming to PA. A point to note is that the car was not a factory equipped AC car, but the original owner had the selling dealership install AC for those hot Long Island summers cruising to the Long Beach boardwalk. An original interior, a factory color repaint and the final year for carburation on the legendary 5.0 and we have a winner among our midst. A few scuffs and touch ups, but otherwise very nice condition overall. Settle into the seats and breathe in 1985 all over again.
***Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.***
Exterior
A nicely presenting respray black paint bathes the exterior of this car. Adorning the midline is a dark stripe of charcoal gray molding, and this runs around the car creating various coves and flares, as well as some embossed badging just north of the rockers. This is also noted on the hood with a knockout decal GT badge. Badging is correct and clean as is all the window trim. A sweeping hatchback provides room for the large rear window complete with a defogger and sweeps down to the long running spoiler that would become standard fare on the 1987-93 Mustang LX. Rear quarter window louver trimmings accentuate the hatch line and up top a lightly smoked factory sunroof has been cut into the steel. Standard 15-inch 10 hole wheels are on all 4 corners wrapped in nearly new 225/60R15 rubber. Up front are dual rectangular headlights set deep within a black surrounding plastic bezel thus earning the nickname for the cars....the "four eye".
Interior
All original and all shades of light and dark gray with black handles for the door panels. To spice up the gray, are front buckets and a rear 2 plus 2 bench. These have dark gray small checkered inserts and lighter broadcloth bolsters, and a red wide piping delineating the shades of gray. These float in a sea of clean gray carpeting. The dash is charcoal gray and original with slighter lighter charcoal inserts that have machine screws to mount these individual plates which house the instrumentation. In the center is the factory AM/FM/Cassette stereo and just below this at the front of the console is a digital readout clock, and an overhead graphic showing fuel, washer fluid levels, and exterior lights which are not lit. Moving back is the shift lever with a black leather boot, and the handbrake lever, also in black within the gray stitched console sides. Not to be left out, the 3 spoke non-cruise control steering wheel, which is leather wrapped on the rim and is visually appealing.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is an original 5.0 Liter V8 which shows some slight patina but is clean. This is fed by a Holley 4 barrel carburetor and has a T5 5-speed manual transmission on back. A Ford 7.5-inch rear with 3.08 rear TracLok axle setup is noted to push this car along. Machined cast valve coverings and no corrosion for all the bolt ons, as well as a spun stainless dual snout air cleaner covering with a 5.0 Liter 4V H.O. badge on its top.
Undercarriage
Very slight surface rust is seen but mostly structurally solid unibody construction with clear floor pans and rockers. Independent coil springs and a 4 link with coil spring suspension as well as power disc brakes on front and power drums on the rear are noted. Headers feed down to dual exhaust that snakes its way rearward and shows some slight rust on the mufflers. We note the catalytic converters have been deleted.
Drive-Ability
This car fired right up and handled the test track with flying colors. A veritable trip back in time with the road of the 5.0 and shifting gears like a young Wally Dallenbach. A great handler, and tight car, so a 2 thumbs up goes to it with all functions working.
All very original here folks complete with its small battle scars, a known history, the original interior, and overall really nicely preserved survivor. And of course, engine power from the 5 liter that is sly as a Fox!
