Description

Minimalistic with maximum function, thrift, not revolutionary in concept or execution, a compact grocery getter, pick the kids up kinda car, here in our Hallowed Halls.  It is so pedestrian you would walk by it and never notice it.  However this does not detract from its charm, and the fact that it is a grocery getter, but now with a 355ci engine with .030 over flat top pistons, a refreshed new interior, improved suspension, and electronic ignition, and some fiberglass replacing that heavy burdensome metal.  Much more to come, if you read on!

Exterior
She wore a Raspberry beret, and she wears it well for the exterior paint bathing the panels, some steel and the front fenders and hood are fiberglass.  A few areas of rust bubbling through the finish are noted at the bottoms of both doors and a repair area of body filler with darker paint is noted on the passenger's rear fender lip.  Nicely preserved front trimmings for the grille, surround and bumper and now sporting SS badging.  The hood has dual trim inserts and the fiberglass front fenders have the correct badging and vertical rectangular trimming just below.  Doors are minding their gaps very well, and all stainless trimmings around the glass is excellent.  The B pillar says it all on this car with its gracefully sloping rake that melts into the trunk deck and finally curves around for the rear roll pan and shiny bumper below.  Horizontal tail lights are just above this bumper and more SS badging for the center of the back of the car.  15 inch shiny rally bowtie wheels are on all 4 corners and are wrapped in front ben 205/75R15's from the 13th week of 2001, and quite larger 245/70R15's from the 30th week of 2008.  I give you a raspberry as I blow by you…Suhweet!

Interior
As stated, all new and it looks like the showroom original.  All in black with some wood appliqué accenting for the door panels, front low back with headrest chairs and the rear bench.  The dash is original but has plenty of add ons to keep your eyes on the pulse of this front mounted flexing muscle under that fiberglass hood.  Seen are a tach with a shift light, a column mounted low oil pressure light, and a gaggle of aftermarket gauges hanging below the dash in the center.  Also there is a Hurst Competition Plus shifter with reverse lock-out and line lock.  A shout to the trunk where the battery is now mounted and all surfaces are very buttoned up!

Drivetrain
Under the hood iS the money shot so let's lift it totally off to get a great view of this mechanical eye candy sitting in a pristine engine bay.  We feast our eyes on a 355ci V8 roller engine that has 4 bolt mains, and .030 overbore forged flat top pistons.  There is a forged steel crank now within the bottom end, a high volume oil pump, and a 7 quart Moroso oil pan.  It has a double roller thing chain, Comp Cams valve train, and a Mallory Ignition.  On top is an Edelbrock Air Gap intake, and a Holley 650 carb.  The mill has World Products 64cc angle plug heads with 2.02" intake and 1.60" exhaust valves.  Hooker Super Comp headers are on and there is a 2.5 inch X Pypes exhaust along with mufflers courtesy Flowmaster.  A Muncie M20 4 speed is bolted on there is a Hayes throwout bearing, McLeod 11" clutch, and a HD clutch fork.  A Lakewood blow-proof bell housing is protecting it all.  All this power runs rearward through a driveshaft loop to a 12 bolt 3.73 rear axle.  Phew!

Undercarriage
More candy under here with stainless brake lines and a new master cylinder with DOT 5 synthetic fluid.  Power disc braking is in front, and power drums for the back.  Independent coil spring suspension is in front, and leaf spring with some added traction bars are on back.  We note new springs, new front end parts, and new ball joints.  Down the track we go!

Drive-Ability
Another car for my cohort, and this one definitely put a smile on his face and he never smiles at anything including my jokes.  You could say he's a real jocular guy, but you'd be dead wrong…but I digress.  All was very well if he smiles, so that's all I need to say.  It goes like hell, handles well, and everything was working as it should for this purple people eater.  Well Raspberry!

Quite the effort on this SS clone coming up with a unique build with power to spare, all looking fab on the exterior, and interior, and I'm not really really into muscle cars but this one I has to the a look and do a test drive, but don't tell my stone faced cohort, he hates everything!
