Deep Crimson Paint/14,106 Miles/Garage Kept/Arizona Beige Accents/TR3650 Manual
Most 40th Anniversary package cars came with Parchment, (tan), leather interiors and Crimson Red Metallic paint; this is one of them. The last year of this generation of the venerable Mustang, this low mileage, 14,106 to be exact, convertible presents in great overall condition. A stout 4.6 liter SOHC EFI V8 to power you down the highways and byways. Pony up and put the top down and let's enjoy 40 years of the Mustang.
Exterior
Bathed in Crimson Red Metallic with a tan cloth top similar to that of the SVT Cobra, and badged in clean chromed 40th anniversary badges, this car sports a hood scoop, Arizona Beige decals, and the correct spoiler delete package along with color keyed mirrors, and lower side stripes in matching Arizona Beige. Side body panels are reminiscent of the '65 version, as are the updated rear brake lights. Dual exhaust protrudes below the Mustang labeled bumper and Arizona Beige accented wheels adorn all 4 corners.
Interior
Lowering the convertible, we are met with nicely kept Parchment leather and vinyl combination seats, buckets in front and a bench in the rear. The buckets are embroidered in tan with the galloping pony logo and the driver's seat shows the brunt of the wear with minor age wrinkling in the leather along with upper left bolster wear. Power windows, power mirrors, a power top up and down, and a driver's side power seat adjustment are seen on this car. The dash also in tan vinyl has a very clean instrument panel, with analog gauges and digital odometer readout. A leather wrapped 5-speed shifter sits within the console and sits within its correct aluminum shift boot trim ring. A 40th Anniversary badge is on the console just below the heater controls and the Mach 1000 AM/FM/CD Changer stereo. Stainless steel pedal covers float above a seat of tan carpeting which is protected by tan 40th Anniversary floor mats.
Drivetrain
A 4.6 liter SOHC fuel injected V8 backed by a Tremec TR3650 5-speed manual transmission can be seen in clean and green shape with the lift of the hood. On the back is a Ford 8.8" 3.27 TracLoc rear axle.
Undercarriage
All original, all structurally sound with surface rust on uncoated steel surfaces, definitely unremarkable. Rockers are pristine, as are the unibody rails and floor panels. Independent front suspension and 4 link rear suspension along with dual exhaust with factory mufflers and 4-wheel power disc brakes.
Drive-Ability
This car started right up and I flipped the top down and it was off to the sunny test track. Here it had nice acceleration, a throaty sound, and good handling and braking. It is a comfortable car to drive, and with all functions working, it could handle a long cruise with ease and comfort.
Not many manufacturers can claim to have lasted 40 years let alone a single model doing so uninterrupted. Beautiful paint, body lines and interior gives this last year of the venerable SN-95/New Edge platform a long lasting look that even to this day gets ooohs and ahhhs. A pampered garage kept car, never modified in any way, few miles clocked on it, and now it can be grabbed by you and rode into the sunset…Pony up and celebrate 40 years of the pony!
