2006 Pontiac GTO
In early 1963, a team of engineers and designers got together at Pontiac and decided to focus more on street racing and power. The Tempest had been in production for a bit, and a more “muscular” powerful car was needed. Hence the acronym GTO or Grand Tempest Option became the code for the secret new development that would take place. John DeLorean actually claims the GTO came from the Italian “Gran Turismo Omologato” or “Grand Touring Homologated” (certified) which in reality the car was never meant for grand touring, but to be the fastest straight-line Pontiac produced.
This car purchased off the lot at Rider Oldsmobile/Pontiac in State College, Pennsylvania on August 22, 2006, has been collector kept by 2 different adult owners since. Presenting in near showroom condition, this supercharged sought after version is ready to rock and roll. Some upgrades to sweeten the deal even further, make this consignment a great little piece of automotive candy for someone who has a sweet tooth for this kind of muscle.
Exterior
Cyclone Gray Metallic can be seen when this car blows by you. Paint is very nice, and original to this consigner stated 51,000+ original mile car., with no dents or parking lot dings. An SLP urethane chin spoiler/splitter adds some looks and protects the front bumper from parking curb rash. Niche lightweight road wheels in black size 18 x 8 exactly match the original (which are included) and are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenzas size 235/40 18's. Peeking out from these awesome wheels are red brake calipers. Consigner has spare badges in case originals fade they can be replaced with a new set.
Interior
Nicely presenting and equally as welcoming black leather buckets are in front, and a 2+2 bench which are essentially 2 more individual attached buckets are in back. A very clean dash, with red background instrumentation, and very clean controls, as well as a small LED display in the center console are there for your monitoring. Billet aluminum pedals and an original steering wheel are noted. A power driver's seat, and red stitching on the gearshift leather surround complete the interior package.
Drivetrain
An LS2 6.0 Liter V8 with an aftermarket attached Magnuson Roots style supercharger bumps the 6.0 Liter up to 520hp and 535ft/lbs at the rear wheels. (A factory 6.0 makes 400hp @ 400ft/lbs). This being a low boost unit, the engine will live a very long time, and can run flawlessly on 93 octane fuel. Attached is a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission.
Undercarriage
In a nutshell, very clean, slight surface rust on the usual corrosive steel parts, but totally unremarkable. Beautifully preserved, and obviously never taken out in a snow/salt environment.
Taking a close look at the items included, this car has been well cared for. Examples include original window sticker, original owner's manual/reference guide, a new key base with rubber printed symbols that are not showing any rub off, a set of new window switches (04's and 05's had known problems, supposedly fixed in 06 but has them just in case!) all original parts down to every bolt in case one would want to remove the supercharger and have an original engine, and original factory 18” aluminum wheels with lug nuts. Strap on your led foot, and brush your sweet tooth, you are going for a ride!
