By 1970, the Chevelle had already captured Chevy enthusiasts hearts and this year's design and performance changes enhanced their love for the model. The '70 model year saw an edgier body introduced with a more squared-up stance in contrast with the curves of the '69 year-model. Enhancing the SS option, Chevelle owners saw increased offerings that came with the SS badge. Buyers could choose from a 396 or 454 cubic inch V8. The SS received a "power dome" hood, black accented grill and rear bumper insert. The sport wheels on the SS where equipped with wide-oval tires. There was no doubt with the introduction of '70 Chevelle SS that this car would become a legend.
This '70 Chevelle SS is powered by a matching numbers 454ci/450hp LS6 V8. The result of a frame-off restoration, we acquired this car from a large private collection where the car had sat on display for some time. We immediately had the exterior stripped and repainted in order to bring the exterior to the standard of the rest of the car. In addition, the motor, heads and transmission were broken down and resealed, a new clutch was installed, brakes were replaced all around, including brake lines, and a new master cylinder and brake booster were also added. The M22 heavy duty 4-speed manual transmission and 12-bolt Positraction rear axle on the car are both date code correct. This LS6 Chevelle is truly unique with it's Black Cherry (Code 6868) exterior and Saddle vinyl bench seat. On the exterior, the gleaming fresh paint is set off by white rally stripes that run into over the cowl induction hood. Soft Ray tinted glass and Firestone Wide Oval tires round out the curb appeal. On the inside, the saddle seating is complemented by the two-tone saddle and brown dash. Options include AM/FM radio, deluxe seat belts with shoulder harness and 6,500 redline tachometer.
Well-restored true 1970 LS6 Chevelles, especially those that present with unique builds, are becoming more and more difficult to acquire. This Chevelle is undoubtedly an investment worthy car that will continue to present appreciation opportunity.
Unless stated otherwise, mileage shown on odometer is exempt and unknown if original.
