2009 Dodge Challenger R/T
When it comes to pony cars, as was the Challenger's first outing, it wasn't early on the scene. In fact, it was one of the last pony cars of the Detroit Three to roll onto the scene and yet its lateness didn't make it any less awesome. The 426 HEMI engine, dubbed "the Elephant Motor," powered the Challenger, as did the smaller 2.2-liter Slant Six. The powertrain simply blew people away and made the Challenger not only rise but beat most challenges. Though this version lasted just five years from 1970-74, it remains one of the most powerful debuts in the automotive world.
For consignment a very nice 2009 Challenger RT in a throwback shade of TorRed. A one owner car that has always been dealer serviced with the records available and just out of a 3-year storage with a fresh PA inspection sticker. Even with 144,806 miles this tire fryer has lots of life left and is now a standout in our Hallowed Halls of Classic Auto Mall.
Exterior
Cared for through the years but still used as a reliable driver the paint on this R/T is wonderfully shiny, with a few chips, dings, waviness to the front neoprene bumper and rust bubbling starting in front of each of the rear tires, otherwise we see smooth metal all minding their gaps. Bathed in TorRed with a black front wing hanging underneath the menacing black grille with just a hint of chrome, and a dual cowled hood covered with a matte black finish stripe has been added on the center of the hood and dual RT stripes race across the hood and down the fenders. With a body matching integrated front bumper, this car retains a beautiful aerodynamic form. Matching sport mirrors on either side, and a small TorRed spoiler on the trunk lid and we are ready to make some smoke. Big 20-inch wheels and medium low-profile rubber are on all 4 corners. A red serpent in the garden of eden we call the drag strip.
Interior
Smooth charcoal leather for the bolsters with tuck and roll gray leather inserts covers the front buckets and rear bench. These seats are in good condition, with no stains, drips or errors, but do have patina and tearing on the drivers left bolster. Ergonomically placed dash instruments, controls and steering wheel allow anyone of any size to get comfortable. All interior is shades of gray and black, and just a stunning combination to go with the exterior TorRed. Comfort abounds in biblical proportions. 4 round white faced gauges face the driver and in the center of the dash is the factory installed AM/FM/CD Sirius capable stereo and heater/A/C knobs. A black console races back from under the dash and holds the automatic shifter with manual shift mode as well as cup holders and an armrest/storage bin.
Drivetrain
Lifting the retro throwback designed hood we are met with a TorRed painted engine bay holding within a 5.7 Liter Hemi V8. This small elephant is capable of making 370hp. Power is sent to the rear axle by a 5-speed automatic W5A580 transmission. Speaking of the rear axle, it is of the independent variety and weighs in with a 3.06 ratio. This rear axle was replaced under warranty approximately 3 years ago due to a slight noise. Despite the mileage, the engine bay remains very clean with glossy paint and little to no patina.
Undercarriage
Looking the part to match the miles, this undercarriage remains clean with only minor surface rust and patina. No rust, just straight structurally strong steel, power disc brakes all around, and independent coil spring front suspension and independent 5 link on the rear are noted.
Drive-Ability
This car lights right up upon turning the key and will go at any speed you want it to. It runs very smoothly, and even has an economy mode when cruising along to save on fuel. Handles great and is overall a comfortable ride. Love the seats…wicked comfortable!
With plenty of power, nice paint, 1 owner, and well kept, this is a recent classic you will not go wrong with. A speed demon that will give your friends a devil of a time trying to beat you on the arm drop. In fact, give them a head start just so they seem to have a chance!
