Coronet

Description

For many, it was a styling you either loved or hated. The 1970 Dodge Coronet was given a redesigned front end, with twin chromed grilles looping around paired headlamps and a center divider descending from the hood's leading edge. Mild restyling on the fenders and a fresh hood treatment on the Super Bee model added to its singular appearance. This would be the final year the Super Bee option was available with this body; indeed, in 1971, the Coronet became a 4-door platform, and performance trim was relegated to the Charger. Against a host of new models including Dodge's own Challenger, sales of the 'Bee came in at just more than 15,000 units total in 1970, and today, Super Bees like this yellow stinger have a strong following. With the wide black rear-end stripe, chrome Super Bee logos, hood pins, and the unique-to-1970 hood power bulge, the car looks the part of the all-American muscle. This Dodge is still powered by its numbers-matching 383 Magnum engine, called out via logos on the fenders and fitted with factory exhaust manifolds, dual exhaust to the back bumper, twin-snorkel air cleaner, and 4-barrel carburetor that helped create its legend. Behind this is the strong 4-speed transmission. Climb inside and find front bucket seats, the booted Hurst Pistol Grip shifter, solid-state radio, and factory-correct woodgrain applique on the dash with round-face gauges and a 150 MPH speedometer. The colorful stinger image in the stripe's center and chrome nameplates spelling Super Bee out on each side of the hood blister showcase the idea of building a powerful street image, and a chrome driver's-side mirror, Rallye wheels, and Cooper Cobra radial tires complete its appearance. We noted earlier that some people were not enamored with its restyling back in the day. In the 21st century, finding buyers who desire the single-year appearance of the '70 Super Bee is not a challenge; finding solid examples like this one is very difficult.
