“A sports car for the four of you.” – Period Chevrolet Camaro magazine advertisement

The advertising copy continued: “You could buy a Corvette. But good as it is, space is limited to two people. So, we also have Camaro. With four seats. And we think we're perfectly justified in calling it a sports car. It certainly qualifies on looks. Our stylists have seen to that. And it performs and handles like a sports car. Our engineers have seen to that. But nothing we can say can take the place of a test drive. So why don't you see your Chevrolet dealer. He's got a sports car waiting. For the four of you.”

In another Camaro ad, the copy included: “… Road & Track calls Camaro “the best American car we've ever driven.”

This 1972 Camaro is a restored, performance-enhanced coupe in medium metallic blue (with white stripes) over black. The improvements and enhancements are well-executed and properly integrated. The car's odometer shows 89,351 miles.

The Camaro's exterior paint was professionally applied to all appropriate surfaces including trunk interior, door sills and jambs, and under-hood areas. The finish is in excellent condition and the stripes are free of fading or cracks. The flow of the stripes over the integrated rear spoiler is particularly attractive. (To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) The chrome finish on the front bumper, center-drop rear bumper, headlight trim, taillight trim, cabin-glass trim, and door handles is all in well-maintained condition with only light patina (most noticeable on the door handles). Badging includes the front Camaro logo and front fender script-Camaro emblems with no emblems in back. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and undamaged. Factory rally-style, silver-painted 14-inch wheels (with stock “Chevrolet Motor Division” hubcaps) are mounted with Cooper® Cobra Radial G/T raised-white-letter 225/70 tires.

The car's interior maintains a '72 Camaro stock appearance, all in black. The high-back front buckets and rear bench seat are upholstered in vertically pleated, dotted, soft velour fabric, free of damage. Original-style black cabin carpeting continues the black theme. Original vinyl-trimmed hard-plastic door trim is in place and showing some looseness; door-sill step-over plates are in very good condition. (Please view the close-up photography in the gallery to assess the condition of the Camaro's various interior surfaces.) A 4-spoke, metal-trimmed Grant® GT steering wheel with leather rim frames the stock instrument array with lenses showing some cloudiness. Auxiliary Equus® coolant-temperature and oil-pressure gauges are mounted in the glove box. An upgraded JVC® audio head unit is located in the factory radio position. HVAC slide-lever controls are stock, and a grab-bar type shifter (also stock) for the automatic transmission is console-mounted forward of a lockable storage compartment with center armrest. The car's trunk features a period-correct vinyl mat.

Under the hood, the 350-cubic-inch V8 wears a chrome, open-sided air cleaner, Edelbrock®-branded, finned valve covers, heat-insulated exhaust headers, red ignition wiring, and a zinc-finish brake-fluid reservoir. (Be sure and sample the engine's exhaust note in the accompanying linked video.) The engine bay is clean and components are properly mounted. Viewed from below, the chassis is clean, complete, and undamaged. The very clean lower-engine surfaces and the full-length dual-exhaust system are visual focal points. (To best evaluate the condition of undercarriage surfaces, please review the gallery photos shot from below.)

The Camaro's original information tags remain in place.

While the more than 170 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '72 Camaro in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.

The "best American car" that Car and Driver loved back in the early Seventies has returned here, refreshed and ready to draw admirers at cars-and-coffee gatherings or street-performance demonstrations. Rock 'n roll.
