2009 Dodge Challenger SRT 8
When it comes to pony cars, as was the Challenger's first outing, it wasn't early on the scene. In fact, it was one of the last pony cars of the Detroit Three to roll onto the scene and yet its lateness didn't make it any less awesome. The 426 HEMI engine, dubbed "the Elephant Motor," powered the Challenger, as did the smaller 225ci Slant Six. The powertrain simply blew people away and made the Challenger not only rise but beat most challenges. Though this version lasted just five years from 1970-74, it remains one of the most powerful debuts in the automotive world.
For consignment, a simply amazing SRT8, only a 2-owner car, 4,879 miles and 425hp under the hood. This car has a flawless both in and out and hasn't even been broken in yet. This car will impress in our hallowed halls of Classic Auto Mall.
Exterior
Meticulously cared for, played with and put away nicely for the next time, this favorite toy is in excellent condition. Paint is wonderfully shiny, with no inclusions just smooth metal all minding their gaps and the black added stripes give the complete WOW factor. Bathed in TorRed with a black chin spoiler hanging underneath, the menacing black grille with just a hint of chrome in the form of a SRT badge, and a dual cowled hood. With a body matching integrated front bumper, this car retains a beautiful aerodynamic form. Matching sport mirrors on either side, and a small black spoiler on the trunk lid and we are ready to make some smoke. Big 20-inch wheels and medium low-profile rubber are on all 4 corners. A red serpent in the garden of eden we call the drag strip.
Interior
Leather and suede in the form of Royale leather with perforated suede microfiber, covers the front buckets and rear bench. These seats are in very good condition, with no stains, drips or errors, just an ever so slight patina on the drivers left bolster. Ergonomically placed dash instruments, controls and steering wheel allow anyone of any size to get comfortable. All interior is shades of dark gray and black, and just a stunning combination to go with the exterior TorRed. Comfort abounds in biblical proportions and ya gotta dig the throwback chrome handled Hurst shifter and bright red ball topper.
Drivetrain
The 6.1 liter Hemi V8 which is original to this car has a consignor-stated performance chip added and looks just like it did the day it rolled off the assembly line with the exception of an added K&N air filter assembly. Bolted to this Elephant is a 6-speed manual Tremec TR6060 transmission. Out back is a limited slip 3.92 rear, standard fare for all manual transmission SRT 8 cars.
Undercarriage
Looking like it has barely been used underneath even with no road grime! No rust, just straight structurally strong steel, Brembo power disc brakes all around, and independent coil spring front suspension and independent 5 link on the rear are noted. A performance glasspack style exhaust has also been added for help on the exhale and to make sweet, sweet HEMI music.
Drive-Ability
This car lights right up upon turning the key and will go at any speed you want it to. It runs very smoothly, and with your foot to the floor....woooah horsies! Handles great and is overall a comfortable ride. Love the seats…wicked comfortable!
With plenty of power, beautiful paint, low mileage, (4,879 to be exact), 2 owners, and well kept, this is a recent classic you will not go wrong with. A speed demon that will give your friends a devil of a time trying to beat you on the arm drop. In fact, give them a head start just so they seem to have a chance!
