1986 Ford Mustang GT Convertible

The third generation Mustang is frequently referred to as the Fox Body Mustang since it used the new Fox platform. Fox Body Mustangs were produced between 1979 and 1993, the longest generation of Mustang to date, though there were several significant body updates made throughout this generation. The Fox Body Mustangs were seen by many as a return to what worked for the first generation of Mustang, and a step away from the failings of the Mustang II. Though the Fox Body Mustangs were popular at their release, they've only gained popularity in the years since then. The Fox Body has gained a reputation as a modders dream, and with the right modifications this fox can fly.

Presenting a low mileage 5.0 Liter V8 powered GT convertible that has been meticulously serviced with almost all Motorcraft parts. Add in a repaint in the original color, new decals, a new top, new carpet, and a multitude of services done, this car shows well, and goes well, and is a very nice example of a 1986 Mustang GT drop top.

Exterior
With a new black convertible top and glass rear window and bathed in a respray of black with new charcoal decals, all steel panels are straight and show consistent gaps all around. Also noted is a belt line trim that appears as a stripe as it has an inset area running the length of the trim before ending in a gray GT inset callout. Badging is correct and clean as is the window and convertible top trim. The bumpers are not marred and are in nice condition. Satin finish 16" Pony wheels are seen on all 4 corners and the purchase will include the original wheels with tires mounted on them.

Interior
Original and near showroom with the exception of a replacement carpet, the cloth interior in PA code Charcoal and Gray shows articulated sport buckets in front that have tuck and roll inserts, and plain bolsters, with open headrests along with some snappy red piping that divides the two colors. In the rear is a 2 plus 2 bench which matches the patterns of the front. A crack free padded gray dash top and surrounds, frame square and rectangle designed inserts for instruments, a glove box, and center console. Some of these elements in white grid over gray, others in light blue and all of this is fronted by the non cruise control 3 spoke steering wheel giving it all a sporty appearance. Manual windows and locks, and heater controls, (it's a non-AC car folks), are throughout the cabin. New gray carpeting with black 5.0 embroidered carpet floor mats show in good condition, with the driver's side mat showing slight staining.

Drivetrain
The clean 5.0 Liter HO SEFI V8 pumps out 200hp and is attached to a Borg Warner T5 5-speed manual transmission. This combination pushes power back to a Ford 8.8” rear with 2.73 Trac-Lok gears.

Undercarriage
Nice and clean, structurally sound and no rust. Even in the lower doors where they meet the rockers, show as showroom with very good rubber linings, and absolutely no rust. Power disc brakes upfront, and power drums for the rear. Dual exhaust snakes its way back from factory headers and through Flowmaster muffler before exiting under the rear bumper with a pair of chrome tips.

Fox bodied Mustangs are increasing in popularity due to their return to more like the original Mustang concept of the early 1960's. With roughly 89K miles, a repaint, new decals, and lots of service records, the car would be right at home in any serious Mustang collection. So, what are you waiting for?
