Description

This 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is already attractive because it's an exceptionally preserved low-mileage coupe with a distinctive color combo. But what really puts it into the collector car stratosphere is the correct IROC Pace Car livery that has an undeniable authenticity.

This is for those who love racing history. The International Race of Champions (IROC) was a true level playing field with an identical set of cars and the best drivers behind the wheel. And they all had to follow this one. That's because this is not a pace car replica, and instead, all the signs point to this being the genuine track Pace Car. There even appears to be VIN-specific paperwork as part of the verification process. This coupe is a real-deal Z/28 finished in its factory white. The green stripe package is not one we see very often, and that's the secret to this car's preservation. This was chosen because it goes so well with the Sprite logos on the rear fender. We're told this Sprite themed-Camaro seemed to strike a real chord with a Missouri Coca-Cola employee. So he bought the car out of Georgia with 60 miles on the odometer. Over 40 years later, and this coupe has barely averaged over 500 miles annually. So the lacquer paint, Z/28 body kit, special white wheels, and even the pace car door decals are so well presented that this Camaro feels like it's frozen in time.

The interior is part of the car's well-coordinated style. After all, the sea of green just makes you think of Sprite. It's well preserved on the dash, door panels, carpeting, and comfortable bucket seats. And you'll love resting your right arm between the center console and perfect-sized shifter. It really is a great classic right down to details, like the working dome light, AM/FM stereo with 8-track, space-saver spare in the trunk, and the feel of the Z/28's special corded steering wheel. You even have provisions for factory air conditioning (the system will need to be reawakened/serviced to blow cold again.) So just like the exterior, stepping into this special Camaro is like stepping back in time.

Under the hood is Chevy's stout 350 cubic-inch V8 with a Rochester four-barrel carburetor on top. On a car that has been so authentic so far, you'll be happy to know this is the numbers-matching motor, too. Survivor people will love the level of detail, right down to the factory decals. These are torque-filled powerhouses, and so this Z/28 had the right muscle to lead the pack. Plus, these were the years of the IROC road courses, and so you needed a Z/28 with its upgraded handling package, including sway bars front and rear. And the three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, and front discs make it easy to now take this Camaro to car shows near or far.

The sale comes complete with a display board and a trunk full of trophies that his unique survivor has already won. If you want to be a leader in classic cars, then it's time to set the pace in this Camaro. Call today!!!
